Join UChicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse in the Adult Emergency Department.    A Staff Nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision.   The Adult ED consists of 45 patient care beds (and 12 fast-track chairs), including six trauma/resuscitation suites and separate rooms for infection isolation, care of immune compromised patients, and psychiatric consultations. In the general care area, 45 rooms are fully equipped with critical care monitoring capabilities. The six trauma/resuscitation suites are immediately adjacent to the ambulance bay. The main trauma suite is equipped with a video camera and monitor which is used to record and review resuscitations. This experience is invaluable for analyzing and learning from the acute care setting.    The University of Chicago Medicine is designated as a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center, meaning the hospital is prepared to handle the most seriously injured trauma patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We provide trauma surgery, acute care surgery and critical care surgery to treat injuries involving burns, blunt trauma, which can occur from falls or pedestrian-motor vehicle crashes and penetrating traumas, typically seen in gunshot or stab wounds.   Required Qualifications - Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing - Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher - Current Illinois RN license - Active BLS Certification Preferred Qualifications  - ED RN experience    Position Details - Job Type/FTE: Full-time (0.9) - Shift: Days, 7a-7p every other weekend required  - Unit/Department: Adult Emergency Department - CBA Code: NNU

Join UChicago Medicine, as a Patient Access Specialist in our Cancer Service Line.   As an Patient Access Specialist, you will be responsible for guiding patients through cancer center services at UCM.   The Access Specialist ensures that the patient and their caregivers are able to access appropriate services in a timely manner with a high-degree of compassion and efficiency.  This position is responsible for coordinating services and related appointments for all new patients among multiple providers and ancillary departments before and until their first visit.   Essential Job Functions - Responsible to oversee the scheduling of the new Plastics patient’s initial appointment with the appropriate provider and will coordinate complex joint appointments and referrals for lab testing and imaging procedures prior to first visit in communication with program liaisons and providers. - Anticipates patients’ frequently asked questions and concerns by assuming a proactive approach prior to the initial visit. Directs patient and caregiver questions and concerns to appropriate UCM clinicians, administrative staff and providers. - Obtains patients’ authorization and  verifies that all medical records, pathology slides and specimens, faxes and other items necessary for the initial visit have arrived. Stephen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Comer Children's Hospital is among the largest in the Midwest, with approximately 1,000 admissions every year. Our NICU features 47 designated tertiary care beds (Level III) and 18 convalescent (Level II) beds.   The Assistant Patient Care Manager (APCM) will be accountable for over-seeing the patient flow and operations during their designated shift. Duties include completing daily or shift specific quality audits and Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) boards, facilitate daily huddles with staff, and directing delivery of quality, patient-centered care in a financially responsible manner. This is in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Patient Care Manager (PCM).  In the absence of the PCM, the APCM assumes responsibility for the unit.  APCM supports PCM with 24/7 coverage of the unit.   Essential Job Functions  - Assists & collaborates with the PCMs in supporting changes, new and existing programs with staff input and feedback - Aides in development of goals that are consistent with department goals and Hospitals’ mission - Assists & collaborates in utilizing appropriate resources and departments to facilitate operations - Identifies issues, presents strategies and acts as a change agent to resolve patient care issues - Provides clinical expertise and resources for unit - Rounds, assesses, and addresses customer and patient satisfaction - Oversees performance management, staff development, and staff retention - Participates in the Quality Improvement (QI) processes by assisting in identifying issues to be examined, collects and analyzes data, and reports to QI committee and staff - Evaluates and addresses staffing needs and participates in the interview and selection process of staff - Monitors a budget and maximizes care efficiency and throughput - Active participation in committee work and task force assignments on as needed basis    Required Qualifications  - Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an approved school of nursing - Charge nurse experience with demonstrated leadership skills required and/or equivalent experience - Current Illinois RN license - Excellent interpersonal communication skills to maintain an open network of communication among staff members, care center and sector leadership, and other health care professionals and departments   Preferred Qualifications  - Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) - Specialty certifications - Experience working at an academic medical center and in a unionized environment - Demonstrates a working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements - NICU experience as a Registered Nurse   Position Details  - Job Type/FTE: Full-Time, 1.0 FTE - Shift: Night, 9p-7a with on-call coverage included - Unit/Department: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - CBA Code: Non-Union
