Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as a Building Automation System Manager.   The Building Automation System Manager for the Medical Center reports to the Director for the Facility/ Plant Operations & Maintenance Department and works closely with the Director to ensure the functionality of existing Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Pneumatic Tube Systems (PTS).  Manages the Facility Systems Technician who serves to perform hands on field inspection, testing, diagnosis, and repair to the BAS & PTS. BAS Manager works independently with limited oversight by the Facility/ Plant Operations & Maintenance Director. BAS Manager is a member of the Department Management team and thus provides direction and guidance on all items related to controls, controls strategy, and HVAC.   Job Functions:   - Optimize BAS & PTS applications and identify flaws or errors in BAS & PTS programs and implements solutions. Design, implement and monitor new BAS control strategies (technical and procedural) to improve energy efficiency, facilities operations and customer satisfaction. - Works with supervisors and staff to manage, troubleshoot, and train departmental personnel on various BAS problems and system operations to enhance operational and energy efficiency. - Manage BAS service contracts and contractor staff. Prioritize work activities to maximize utility gained from service work. Manage BAS & PTS system servers and workstations. Manage networking and interfaces with internal Information Technology (IT) departments - Develop, implement and monitor system tracking and benchmarking metrics for BAS and HVAC system performance. Routinely analyze metrics for compliance with performance, budget and energy efficiency goals. - Participates in the design and specifications of planned capital projects and/or contracts. Provides direction regarding all control sequences recommendations. - Collaborates with Facility Engineer/ Energy Manager to analyze, identify and implement strategies to improve the effectiveness of energy consumption system wide.  - Coordinates turnover and implementation of new BAS systems installed with project managers and installing contractors.   Qualifications:     Required - Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering (highly preferred) or 5 years of equivalent experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS). - Minimum 5 years of BAS experience. - Experience managing contractors and sub-contractors to specific contractual requirements and to fixed budgets. - Understanding of typical Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, and Fire Protection systems and equipment. - Ability to work with the Facilities Team to identify best approaches to problems/questions and present solutions to Executive Director or other Leadership. - Must have ability to access areas that are physically restrictive (e.g., building mechanical rooms, roofs, sub-basements, crawl spaces) for routine and investigative field checks and surveys. Must be able to work within a hospital and research laboratory environment.   Preferred - Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys and Schneider EcoStructure preferred. - Managing in a union environment highly preferred. - Energy management experience including reduction strategies and procurement.   License or Certifications:   - CEM or other Certifications related to automation, controls or HVAC systems.     Skills: - Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. - Strong interpersonal skills required including acumen for teaching and training others. - Strong organizational skills.
