Provides prompt and efficient attention to patient and clinic needs. Manages and performs administrative duties related to clinical role. Effectively manages all levels of complexity of patient audiological needs including tertiary care. Acts as team leader in a subspecialty area of audiology among:  implantable hearing devices, vestibular evaluation, pediatric audiology, or adult diagnostic audiology/hearing aids.   Essential Job Functions: - Complex diagnostic evaluation of the functional status of the peripheral auditory system in children and interpretation of these results. This includes pure-tone air and bone conduction audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, distortion product otoacoustic emissions testing, acoustic reflex thresholds and decay testing. - Knowledge of appropriate device candidacy requirements, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, osseointegrated devices and assistive listening devices. - Team members are actively involved in assisting with advanced peripheral diagnostic assessments such as: audiorty brainstem response (ABR), auditory steady state response (ASSR), electrocochleography (eCochG), vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) in adults and children.  - Develop and lead implementation of new clinical programs in a subspecialty field and to act as a reference to other audiology team members for one of the following: implantable hearing devices, vestibular evaluation, pediatric audiology, or aduilt diagnostic audiology/hearing aids. - Patient and family counseling, including patient education and appropriate referrals. - Evaluation for recommendation of amplification and assistive listening devices. - Ability to take earmold impressions. - Dispensing of amplification including patient instruction of use and maintenance. - Evaluation of benefit of amplification and assistive listening devices, i.e. verification and validation measures. - Appropriate documentation including audiogram and/or written report with test results and recommendations. - Facilitate compliance audits. Required Qualifications - Doctor of Audiology (AuD) or PhD in Audiology is required. - The candidate must have completed the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or ABA Certificate of Clinical Competence. The Anatomic Pathology Lab operates within UChicago Medicine's Department of Pathology, we provide reference laboratory testing to various related and unrelated health care entities, managed care organizations and non-affiliated hospitals, outpatient clinics and private physicians' offices. We offer a full range of diagnostic services.    Job Summary   In consultation with the Lab Supervisor and Chief Test Dev Histotech, is responsible for preparing and processing surgical, autopsy, and Outreach tissue specimens by routine histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist.   Essential Job Functions   • Ensures that specimens meet acceptance criteria and utilizes LIS and specimen tracking/documentation software to assure patient, label, and block identification and record deficiencies/quality concerns.• Performs daily and preventative maintenance of tissue processors, staining platforms, paraffin dispensers, embedding stations, water baths, microtomes, cryostats, freezers, refrigerators, microscopes, etc. as outlined in laboratory procedures and recommended by the manufacturer.• Prepares all tissues for microscopic study, including but not limited to: specimen receiving and verification, processing, embedding, microtomy (cutting), staining (H&E, special stains and IHC as appropriate), and coverslipping.• Performs processing/preparation techniques for muscle, sural nerve, and/or renal tissue. Activities include accessioning, staining, assisting in Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) for on-site adequacy evaluation of FNA procedures, and reporting results according to established procedures. Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Point of Care Coordinator in the Alternate Testing Lab.  The Point of Care Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the quality control and quality performance improvement functions of point of care testing done by non-laboratory care givers.    Job Summary   Participates in planning, organizing, documenting, and providing technical and quality performance services for aspects of testing performed at point of care sites and in designated non-centralized laboratories. Provides technical consultation and standardizes laboratory policies and procedures for use by clinical staff. This may include oversight of testing personnel performance and adherence to SOPs; development and implementation of new procedures, methods, and instrumentation; maintaining and/or improving the quality of work performed, within the framework of compliance with all applicable regulatory/accreditation requirements including CLIA standards and College of American Pathology (CAP) guidelines.   Essential Job Functions  - Participates in oversight of point of care testing operations, ensuring the establishment of appropriate procedures throughout all phases of specimen handling and testing. - Participates in development and implementation of quality control programs to ensure the highest quality results to patients and physicians. - Responsible for ensuring that result reporting activities are completed within mandated timeframes. Documents such procedures into the EPIC electronic medical record appropriately and accurately; in real-time fashion.  Properly assesses the patient during administration of such modalities. - Administers bronchopulmonary hygiene, suctioning, & airway care procedures. Implements airway clearance techniques (to include Chest Physiotherapy, coughing/deep breathing techniques, Therapy Vest, Flutter valve, ExPap device, Acapella device, & incentive spirometry) per physician order or under the guidelines of established and approved departmental patient care protocols. Documents such procedures into the EPIC electronic medical record appropriately and accurately per hospital policy. - Initiates and maintains non-invasive ventilation (NIV) procedures (BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow Cannula) on an emergent and non-emergent basis; assess patient status and the status of NIV equipment and patient tolerance of such. Implements necessary adjustments to assure best level of patient comfort and tolerance to achieve most effective benefit of therapy. Documents procedures into the EPIC system as required. - Initiates, maintains, and checks status (per department policy) of mechanical ventilation; provides for a thorough and complete patient assessment to recommend and implement weaning plans from mechanical ventilation either per physician order or under the guidelines of pre-approved and established departmental mechanical ventilator protocols. Documents such procedures accurately and in timely fashion into the EPIC electronic medical record. - Provides for ventilator management (NIV and mechanical ventilation); appropriate hemodynamic monitoring/reporting of patient parameters (ventilator weaning parameters, spontaneous breathing trials, etc.). Documents information accurately and timely within the EPIC electronic medical record. - Performs Arterial Blood Gas analysis per hospital, department, and accrediting agency guidelines and standards of practice. Trouble shoots ABG analyzers; performs appropriate quality control and general calibration procedures as appropriate.
