The General Medicine (4NE) Unit is a 18-bed, fully telemetry capable unit that is functional 24 hours a day, seven days per week. This department treats a wide variety of Adult inpatient populations (at or above 18 years of age) with various types medical conditions alongside of a multidisciplinary team.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
- Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
- Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program.

- Interprets, evaluates, and accurately dispenses all drug orders in the patient’s best interest as assessed by appropriateness of drug selection, contraindications, dose, side effects, drug interactions, food interactions, duration of therapy, route of administration, and cost

- Accurately checks medication orders that have been entered into the pharmacy computer system by the pharmacy technician: insuring that patient allergies, drug duplication, and drug interactions do not exist which contraindicate therapy and that the drug dose is correct. Enter orders directly into computer system if necessary
- Coordinates with the technician the preparation and labeling of all first and missing doses (IV, PO, etc.)
- Checks all medications prior to dispensing for accurate labeling, preparation, and storage. Coordinates all clinical and dispensing workflow that occurs from the satellite pharmacy
- Supervises the quality/quantity of work and work performance of the pharmacy technician
- Coordinates pharmacist and technician coverage of the area of responsibility during meal breaks or in-services. Assist other staff members, in other areas, in times of high workload
- Supervises pharmacy technicians working under their direction to provide optimal pharmaceutical care and services
- Participates in the orientation, education, and mentoring of new staff (i.e. pharmacists, nurses, pharmacy technicians, etc.) as needed

Job Summary

Essential Job Functions

- Assists other pharmacy technicians as needed. Assists in training new employees in their area of work. Mentors new employees as requested, and assists pharmacists in entering physician orders into the computer system as needed.
- Prepares and delivers investigational drugs, controlled substances (including insulin products) and drugs utilized in the OR. Maintains Omnicell medication stock in the sterile corridor of the OR.
- Maintains controlled substance inventories. Stocks and restocks controlled substance in the central and IV room pharmacies and in the patient care unit Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets. Returns controlled substances to inventory as needed and removes outdated controlled substances under the direction of the supervisor.
- Supports all pharmacy operations and distributive systems as needed to provide optimal pharmacy care to patients. Leads the process to effectively maintain the pharmacy distributive systems, operational projects, and technician responsibilities. Maintains pharmacy distributive systems and operations, including all equipment and technology. Actively review automation, equipment, and technology within responsible areas for appropriate work performance, accuracy, and reliability. Implement appropriate downtime procedures when needed including communication with appropriate external vendors. Indentify opportunities for efficiency and cost-effective improvements in pharmacy operations and distributive systems.
- Prepares inventories, orders drugs and supplies from wholesaler, checks in drugs that are received and rectifies what is received with the invoice. Maintains Macro Helix for aggregation of 340B, GPO and WAC purchases.
- Answers phone calls in a courteous manner according to policy. Triages phone communication appropriately and according to policy. Performs monthly nursing unit inspections, maintains work load records if required and collects quality assurance data. Performs other patient and/or drug related duties within the legal scope of their licensure, as assigned by the pharmacist and/or the supervisor.
- Performs other duties assigned including Technician I and Technician II work as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Bachelors or other advanced degree preferred.
- Valid Illinois pharmacy technician license. Certified Pharmacy Technician License (National Certification)
- Experience and training as defined by one of the of the following qualifications:
- Minimum of at least 5 years’ experience as an inpatient hospital pharmacy technician OR
- Graduation from an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Program, with at least 2 years of experience as an inpatient hospital pharmacy technician OR

Psychiatrist Physician Roles and Responsibilities
- Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment for a specified patient population
- Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions
- Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate
- Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required
- As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs
- Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress
- Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care

As an Nurse Anesthetist, you will be responsible for providing patient care and support throughout the perioperative period. This can include preoperative assessment and sedation, administration and management of an anesthetic, and discontinuation of the anesthetic and postoperative management.

Essential Job Functions
- Acquires anesthesia drugs from the satellite pharmacy, prepares anesthesia drugs and delivery system.
- Functions as a member of the Care Team to carry out the plan for each patient and the Care Center.
- Performs preoperative assessment of the patient, which includes chart review, preop patient interview, history and physical if necessary, and establishes an anesthesia plan based on findings and discussion with the surgeon and attending anesthesiologist.
- Demonstrates an expert proficiency in airway management, which includes mask ventilation, laryngeal mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the management and/or placement of current monitoring techniques and procedures in the perioperative period which include but are not limited to: ECG placement and interpretation, arterial line placement, central line catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, transesophegeal echocardiography, peripheral nerve stimulator's.
- Records all pertinent perioperative events on the patient’s chart and anesthesia record.
- Transports patients postoperatively to an appropriate location based on anesthetic technique and patient’s condition, and reports the patient’s condition and anesthetic concerns to the appropriate clinician.
- In collaboration with the attending anesthesiologist, the CRNA will demonstrate proficiency in the management of the induction, maintenance, and emergence of anesthesia.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current Illinois RN and APN Licensure
- BSN Required
- BLS and ACLS certificate required
- Must be a graduate of an A.A.N.A approved nurse anesthesia program
- Pass the National Certification Examination following graduation

- Graduation with a minimum of a master’s degree from a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs

The Building Automation System Manager for the Medical Center reports to the Director for the Facility/ Plant Operations & Maintenance Department and works closely with the Director to ensure the functionality of existing Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Pneumatic Tube Systems (PTS). Manages the Facility Systems Technician who serves to perform hands on field inspection, testing, diagnosis, and repair to the BAS & PTS. BAS Manager works independently with limited oversight by the Facility/ Plant Operations & Maintenance Director. BAS Manager is a member of the Department Management team and thus provides direction and guidance on all items related to controls, controls strategy, and HVAC.
Job Functions:
- Optimize BAS & PTS applications and identify flaws or errors in BAS & PTS programs and implements solutions. Design, implement and monitor new BAS control strategies (technical and procedural) to improve energy efficiency, facilities operations and customer satisfaction.
- Works with supervisors and staff to manage, troubleshoot, and train departmental personnel on various BAS problems and system operations to enhance operational and energy efficiency.
- Manage BAS service contracts and contractor staff. Prioritize work activities to maximize utility gained from service work. Manage BAS & PTS system servers and workstations. Manage networking and interfaces with internal Information Technology (IT) departments
- Develop, implement and monitor system tracking and benchmarking metrics for BAS and HVAC system performance. Routinely analyze metrics for compliance with performance, budget and energy efficiency goals.
- Participates in the design and specifications of planned capital projects and/or contracts. Provides direction regarding all control sequences recommendations.
- Collaborates with Facility Engineer/ Energy Manager to analyze, identify and implement strategies to improve the effectiveness of energy consumption system wide.
- Coordinates turnover and implementation of new BAS systems installed with project managers and installing contractors.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering (highly preferred) or 5 years of equivalent experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Minimum 5 years of BAS experience.
- Experience managing contractors and sub-contractors to specific contractual requirements and to fixed budgets.
- Understanding of typical Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, and Fire Protection systems and equipment.
- Ability to work with the Facilities Team to identify best approaches to problems/questions and present solutions to Executive Director or other Leadership.
- Must have ability to access areas that are physically restrictive (e.g., building mechanical rooms, roofs, sub-basements, crawl spaces) for routine and investigative field checks and surveys. Must be able to work within a hospital and research laboratory environment.
Preferred
- Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys and Schneider EcoStructure preferred.
- Managing in a union environment highly preferred.
- Energy management experience including reduction strategies and procurement.
License or Certifications:
- CEM or other Certifications related to automation, controls or HVAC systems.
Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills required including acumen for teaching and training others.
- Strong organizational skills. Must be able to independently prioritize multiple tasks in a professional manner.
