Join UChicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse in the Adult Emergency Department.    Sign On Bonus Available!   A Staff Nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision.   The Adult ED consists of 45 patient care beds (and 12 fast-track chairs), including six trauma/resuscitation suites and separate rooms for infection isolation, care of immune compromised patients, and psychiatric consultations. In the general care area, 45 rooms are fully equipped with critical care monitoring capabilities. The six trauma/resuscitation suites are immediately adjacent to the ambulance bay. The main trauma suite is equipped with a video camera and monitor which is used to record and review resuscitations. This experience is invaluable for analyzing and learning from the acute care setting.    The University of Chicago Medicine is designated as a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center, meaning the hospital is prepared to handle the most seriously injured trauma patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We provide trauma surgery, acute care surgery and critical care surgery to treat injuries involving burns, blunt trauma, which can occur from falls or pedestrian-motor vehicle crashes and penetrating traumas, typically seen in gunshot or stab wounds.     Required Qualifications - Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing - Associate of Science in Nursing or higher - Current Illinois RN license - Active BLS Certification Required Education: Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred. A Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is a paraprofessional support person who provides basic breastfeeding information, encouragement, and support to pregnant and lactating parents who are patients of the OB clinics at the University of Chicago Medical Center on Chicago’s South Side. The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor works with patients while they are in outpatient clinic for prenatal appointments as well as inpatient during postpartum recovery. The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and background of the patients served.   Our Community Health Workers (CHW) work across neighborhoods in Chicago’s South Side to address social determinants of health (conditions in the environments in which people are born, live, learn, work, play, etc. that affect a wide range of health outcomes and risks), and assist community members with self-managing health conditions and adopting improved health behaviors.   Essential Job Functions: - Outreach and education: To proactively engage targeted patient/community member populations around health issue areas.
