Job Description

 

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as an Imaging Technical Coordinator (ITC) in the XRay Department at Hyde Park

 

The Imaging Technical Coordinator is responsible for technical management of advanced imaging protocols in the day-to-day operations of the applicable Specialty Imaging section (XRay) of the Department of Radiology. The ITC will act as a resource person to the other technologists, enforces protocols, and educates on changes. THe ITC will meet regularly with physicians and Section Chiefs to help develop protocols and discuss problems or suggestions for improving imaging protocols and advancing technology, and provide cross coverage for Imaging Team Lead in their absence and provides leadership support to maintain compliance and regulatory standards within the department.

In addition, the employee will perform diagnostic imaging studies, and applies principles of safety with all people and equipment in the respective department. The technologist will provide appropriate patient care and recognize the patient’s conditions essential for the successful completion of the procedures and ensure services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures.

  

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains protocols on equipment in all clinical departmental locations
  • Works directly with Radiologists in updating and developing new protocols and ensures optimal quality is achieved
  • Updates departmental protocol books and/or online protocols to ensure technologists have appropriate resources for performing protocols as assigned
  • Maintains vendor relationships to troubleshoot imaging equipment issues
  • Monitors equipment quality standards and is responsible for staff compliance in daily QC checks
  • Works with physicists to achieve and maintain accreditation standards for equipment
  • Works with Imaging Center Manager and Imaging Team Leaders to achieve departmental goals
  • Assists the Imaging Center Manager in the execution of the Exam Quality Review policy including management and resolution of QI tickets and quarterly Retrospective Reviews
  • After review with Imaging Center Manager, will provide education to technologists regarding protocol changes and will present at staff meetings as necessary
  • Performs and completes annual exam competencies on technological staff
  • Perform other leadership responsibilities as assigned by the Imaging Center Manager
  • Works with Medical Physicists to oversee quality and radiation metrics while maintaining Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) reports.

  • Participates in IEMA survey review and provides needed QC daily and monthly reports.

  • Selects appropriate images and submits for American College of Radiology accreditation.

  • Reviews quality tickets in a specified TAT and resolves tickets through coaching, education, and competencies.

  • Audits Radiology and UCM initiatives and policies for compliance such as 2 patient ID, Hand Washing, appropriateness in tracking work correcting and presents the modality metrics at Radiology monthly meetings.

  • Works with vendor application specialists to ensure new equipment training is performed thoroughly.

  • Works with Radiology Leads when new equipment quotes are reviewed to ensure specs are not missed.
  • Attends conferences and RSNA to evaluate new technologies.
  • Performs diagnostic exams selecting proper technical equipment settings and images in proper sequence according to set protocols established by the Department of Radiology
  • Evaluates the request for procedures and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application
  • Appropriately employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate quality images
  • Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of patient care and age-specific sensitivities
  • Participates in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices
  • Evaluates the resultant images in comparison with industry standards and will take corrective action, if needed
  • Refers to appropriate reference materials for clarification when needed
  • Provides patient education prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure in order to reduce the patient’s anxiety and enhance his comfort with and tolerance of the procedure
  • Utilizes Radiology information systems in accordance with current guidelines and protocols
  • Documents imaging procedures manually and/or electronically to insure correct charging, and patient and film file tracking

Required Qualifications

  • Possess a minimum of 8 years of progressively advanced imaging experience as a technologist in the respective modality (Xray)
  • Current registry by American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT (R)
  • Licensure by the State of Illinois (IEMA)
  • CPR and BLS training required
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work with physicians and management
  • Competency and Presentation skills to educate staff
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Handle high pressure, fast paced work environment

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
