Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as an Occupational Therapist (Registry) for our  Inpatient Occupational Therapy department at our main medical campus. In this role, the Occupational Therapist performs occupational therapy assessments and interventions to patients upon referral. The OTR/L practices in an assigned clinical division of the Therapy Services department (pediatrics, acute care, burns, or hand therapy). The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the supervision of patient care rendered by COTA's, technicians, and OT students as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Evaluates patients utilizing the appropriate tests and measurements; to determine the occupational therapy problem/level of function and recommended discharge follow-up.
  • Promotes and has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate patient care protocol relating to the occupational, psychosocial, and developmental needs for neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Establishes occupational therapy interventions based upon the evaluation and examination, the patient/family, the referring practitioner, and therapist's goals.
  • Competently performs appropriate occupational therapy techniques and procedures in groups or individual treatment sessions.
  • Provides for continuity of patient care through written and verbal communication with team members and other treating disciplines, especially in preparation of planned absences.
  • Makes recommendations for needed patient self-care equipment prior to patient discharge and assists with acquisition of same as appropriate.
  • Instructs patient/families in home programs.
  • Documents findings, patient progress, and all procedures performed within established timeframes.
  • Demonstrates effective time management; achieves designated productivity standard.
  • Complies with QC/QI standards/monitors.
  • Attends rounds, conferences and clinics as assigned; reports on patient status and recommends follow up needed for patients requiring OT services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved program in Occupational Therapy. 
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Current occupational therapy license in the State of Illinois (or eligibility to practice) and NBCOT registered
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care which is age specific /appropriate for the types of patients served. Basic computer skills to allow access to operations and patient data
  • Appropriate interpersonal skills necessary to enable positive interactions with patients, families, team members, referral sources, and outside contacts.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
