Job Description

In this role, the Nurse Manager oversees day-to-operations, including scheduling, planning, organizing, and directing all activities related to patient centered care in the unit, and handles an array of administrative duties, including recruitment and hiring; supervision; purchasing; inventory; facility, safety and equipment management. Responsible for preparing for and participating in various inspections, including the JCAHO accreditation process. The Nurse Manager oversees the home infusion nursing service by ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining qualified clinical staff, and coordinating patient needs with appropriate personnel. He/she maintains direct accountability for all nurse training and competencies. He/she will be indirectly responsible for patient satisfaction and outcome metrics that track the benefit of the program.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain and supervise qualified clinical staff.
  • Conduct ongoing skill appraisals and performance evaluations to ensure quality and accuracy of work performed.
  • Hire qualified healthcare professionals as warranted and provide proper orientation and in-service training.
  • Direct the coordination of client intake, scheduling, care plan development, and resource utilization.
  • Establish medical necessity to ensure reimbursement for services rendered.
  • Schedule and assign qualified staff based on client needs; monitor performance to ensure adherence to schedules and policies/procedures.
  • Review and respond to patient and family complaints; investigate unusual events and ensure proper follow‑up and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain a quality management program ensuring case management is appropriate, adequate, and consistent with the patient care plan, medical regimen, and patient needs.
  • Provide backup support to staff.
  • Participate in marketing and promotional activities within the community to support sales objectives.
  • Review records and documentation to ensure compliance with company policies/procedures and all federal/state laws and regulatory agencies (e.g., Pharmacy Board, Nursing Licensure Board, OSHA, CHAP, TJC).
  • Update staff on new or changed regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patients and their personal information.
  • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission accreditation standards, including quality assessments, patient satisfaction, and provider satisfaction programs.
  • Provide input to annual business/marketing plans and budget.
  • Conduct cost analyses and monitor revenue and expenses.
  • Stay abreast of developments in home infusion and nursing.
  • Meet State Board and accreditation requirements by completing required continuing education.
  • Participate in continuing education and in‑services as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Manage 1–5 direct reports.
  • Serve as an indirect liaison with physician clinics and case management and a direct liaison with all contract nursing agencies.
  • Maintain indirect responsibility for the home infusion pharmacy profit and loss statement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
  • Active RN licensure in the state(s) of practice.
  • Must pass a Level 2 background check per AHCA requirements.
  • Minimum six years of clinical experience in the specialty area, including acute/homecare experience within the past two years.
  • Two years supervisory/administrative experience.
  • Expert knowledge of community health, home health/governmental regulations, and Medicare services.
  • Active Illinois Nurse Licensure
  • Certifications: BLS/CPR certification is required. Preferred certifications include OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) or AOCNP (Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner)

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
