Job Description

Join UChicago Medicine

At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world’s most innovative approaches to patients facing conditions ranging from common to highly complex. We are seeking a dedicated and highly collaborative CSP/OR Liaison to serve as a vital connection between the Operating Room (OR) and the Central Sterile Processing Department (CSP).

This is a fully onsite position based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Position Overview

The CSP/OR Liaison plays a critical role in ensuring seamless coordination between the Operating Room and Central Sterile Processing. This position is responsible for overseeing daily workflow, facilitating efficient case flow, and promoting clear, proactive communication to support surgical excellence and patient safety. You will act as the primary communication bridge between OR service leads, OR staff, and CSP leadership—ensuring case cart completeness, addressing missing instruments or trays, and providing accurate ETAs for cart and tray arrivals. This role also carries a phone linked to specific ORs to provide real-time customer service support and rapid issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily activities between the OR and CSP to ensure efficient case flow.
  • Communicate proactively with OR service leads and staff regarding case cart status, missing instruments, and tray availability.
  • Provide timely updates and ETAs for cart/tray arrivals.
  • Partner with CSP leadership to prioritize daily turnovers and anticipate next-day case needs.
  • Ensure critical information is effectively handed off between shifts.
  • Promote outstanding customer service through issue resolution, education, and training of staff and physicians.
  • Assist with departmental projects and process improvement initiatives aligned with organizational policies and performance goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge of cleaning, assembly, packaging, and sterilization standards in accordance with CBSPD, AAMI, and IAHCSMM guidelines.
  • Adhere to evidence-based practices (EBP) and all safety policies, including protocols for bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Stay current on aseptic techniques, microbiology fundamentals, and evolving sterilization practices impacting sterile supply operations.

Required Qualifications

  • CBSPD or CRCST certification (required).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in sterile processing.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile processing standards and regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CIS or CHL certification.
  • Leadership experience within sterile processing.

Professional Standards

All team members are expected to uphold UCMC Standards of Behavior, including:

  • Adherence to all UCMC policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Commitment to the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Providing patient-centered care with presence and focus.
  • Demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and respect in all interactions.
  • Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for patients, families, and colleagues.
