Job Description

This position is 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.  

 

As an Anesthesia Machine and Equipment Specialist you will maintain and repair all fixed and portable equipment used in the delivery of anesthesia care, including assessment of risk and management of physical inventory. Responsible for documenting and organizing all logs and records associated with upholding regulatory compliance standards. Along with the Anesthesia Technician team, serves as primary responder to all anesthesia machine and equipment-related emergencies in the operating rooms. Responsible for performing preventative maintenance, installations, troubleshooting, and repairs on anesthesia machines within the hospital, ensuring optimal functionality and patient safety.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains a strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems as they relate to anesthesia machines and patient safety.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs all anesthesia-related machines, equipment, and cables with minimal assistance or direct supervision.
  • Able to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in a timely manner including in an active clinical setting.
  • Diagnosing and resolving technical issues with anesthesia machines, including electrical, mechanical, and software malfunctions.
  • Knowledgeable in anesthesia machine vaporizers and troubleshooting of vaporizers.
  • Knowledgeable in Phillips monitors & equipment & troubleshooting.
  • Knowledgeable in Capsule device & troubleshooting.
  • Responds to provider or technician requests for assistance and/or troubleshooting of anesthesia machine and equipment
  • Collaborate with clinicians and technicians to ensure patient safety and optimal equipment functionality.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and safety testing on anesthesia equipment as scheduled by manufacturer and as directed by departmental policies.
  • Documents all scheduled: preventive maintenance, safety testing, repairs and results according to Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care policies.
  • Keeps up to date on administrative responsibilities such as maintaining customer service logs and internal service records in a timely manner, ordering repair parts, and managing cycle times.
  • Completes regular rounding in Operating Room areas to evaluate environment of care issues, and to assess daily equipment readiness.
  • Installs new anesthesia machines, performing upgrades, and ensuring proper integration with existing systems.
  • Adheres to safety standards and regulations related to medical equipment, including documentation and reporting of repairs
  • Maintains Anesthesia Shop
  • Orders and organizes all inventories of: parts, PM kits, tools, anesthesia cables and testing equipment.
  • Keeps inventory of and orders anesthesia machine cables as needed.
  • Works with Value Analysis Team in order to determine needs for anesthesia equipment.
  • Works with clinicians and technicians on anesthesia machine projects and upgrades as needed.
  • Completes training of new anesthesia machines as needed.
  • Maintains supply of anesthesia machine inhalation gases in the anesthesia shop for distribution by technicians.
  • Maintains fleet of spare anesthesia machines.
  • Provides anesthesia machine and equipment training to all technicians and clinicians.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma required plus minimum of two years related biomedical technician experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems as they relate to anesthesia machines.
  • Experience in healthcare technology or medical equipment maintenance is required.
  • Completion of factory training and certification for maintenance of Drager and General Electric/Datex- Ohmeda anesthesia machines within 12 months of hire.

Preferred Qualification

  • Certified Anesthesia Technician
  • Drager Anesthesia Machine Certification

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
