Job Description

Join one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic medical centers, UChicago Medicine, as a Network Infrastructure Manager in our IT Technology Services department. This position will be primarily a work from home opportunity with the requirement to come onsite as needed. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.    

    

Under the general direction of the Director of IT Architecture & Infrastructure, the Manager of Network Infrastructure is responsible for the design, implementation and day-to-day operations of the voice & data network servicing the University of Chicago Medical Center. This includes wired, wireless and cellular services for the Hyde Park Campus, the Darien Data Center, and all existing and future remote locations. 

 

Essential Job Functions  

  • Managing the Network Engineering team to support the UCM voice and data networks. 
  • Providing technical guidance for the Network Engineering team supporting the UCM voice and data networks. 
  • Understanding the business impact of events and decisions made relating to the voice and data network. 
  • Make decisions to maximize network availability, performance, and optimize investments. 
  • Manage operational and capital budgets. 
  • Provides highly skilled technical assistance in network budgeting, planning, engineering, and architecture. 
  • Prepares proposals, cost/benefit analyses, and feasibility studies. 
  • Performs other duties assigned. 
  • Responsible for individual technical training for Network Engineers. 
  • Responsible for career guidance and professional development for Network Engineers. 
  • Provides guidance and direction for less Experienced Network Engineers. 
  • Makes recommendations for resources required to maintain and/or expand service levels. 
  • Evaluates new products/technologies to determine the impact on existing system configurations. 
  • Manage vendor relationships. 
  • Manage CBIS departmental relationships. 
  • Interfaces with vendors to identify and purchase hardware and software. 
  • Studies vendor products to determine those which best meet UCM needs and assists in presentation of information to leadership resulting in the purchase and installation of hardware and software. 
  • Responsible for ensuring highly available movement of data through the networks that comprise the enterprise voice & data network (wired, wireless & cellular). 
  • Designs, develops and implements voice & data networks which serve the business needs of UCM, its departments, and information systems. 
  • Develops technical standards, identifies and evaluates new products, and provides resolution for network problems. 
  • Monitors and controls the performance and status of the network resources. 
  • Utilizes software and hardware tools and identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network performance. 
  • Provides integrated team support and maintenance of network hardware and software. 

 

Required Qualifications  

  • BS or BA degree, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent education, training or work experience  
  • Five (5) or more years of Lead Network Engineering experience required. 
  • Skilled and experienced with any or all of the following hardware: Cisco, F5, TippingPointPeakFlow, ACS, SolarWinds, Cisco LMS, TACACS, VoIP, Wireless, EIGRP, BGP, ASE, SONET 
  • Detailed understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts  
  • Independent problem-solver  
  • Sorts through issues and conducts comparative analysis of multiple solutions (i.e. skilled in problem analysis; pays very close attention to detail)  
  • Able to work in a team environment or independently  
  • Excellent listening and organizational skills with emphasis on detail and follow-through  
  • Able to organize and delegate tasks, coordinate projects and be willing to advise others  
  • Skilled in project management and work plan development and implementation  
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills  

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Project leader training  
  • Advanced degree  
  • Experience in healthcare

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
