Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Strategy Manager at our Hyde Park Campus. This position will be primarily a work from home opportunity with the requirement to come onsite as needed.  

 

The Strategy Manager reports to the Assistant Director, Strategic Planning and works closely with the other team members across the Office of Strategic Planning, including Managers, Senior Managers, Directors, and the VP of Strategy & Analytics. The Strategy Manager will also interface with key hospital and physician leadership. 

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in the development, delivery, and implementation of high impact enterprise-wide strategic planning, program development, and other strategy projects. Projects are often multi-year, transformational, and span multiple functions in the health system. 
  • Work with senior clinical and administrative leadership to develop implementable growth strategies for hospital service lines and key business segments
  • Clearly define project scope, develop project plans, and set priorities for working teams.
  • Perform sophisticated analyses and drive to insight quickly, including with the assessment of core capabilities and financial performance of programs within UCMC
  • Conduct market assessments, evaluate environmental trends, develop competitor profiles, and track and synthesize complex legislation and the impact it has on hospital programs
  • Ensures the success of the Strategy team and its partners by serving as a thought partner, establishing key metrics, facilitating working team meetings, identifying and helping to mitigate risks and issues, developing content, and ensuring projects stay on track
  • Assist senior leadership team in evaluating strategic opportunities, researching regional and national market opportunities including M&A and evolving models for partnership As needed, supports due diligence efforts and manages integration with key partners

 

Essential Skills

  • Business acumen and understanding of market/financial analysis in context of healthcare provider needs
  • Facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal team members and stakeholders across UCMC
  • Self-motivation with ability to work independently and with guidance from others on the team
  • Ability to structure solutions in an ambiguous environment
  • Strong attention to detail and capabilities as a strategic problem solver
  • Flexibility and responsiveness in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to positively interact with executives, physicians and staff at all levels
  • Microsoft Office proficiencies, especially fluent with PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to quickly learn proprietary data systems and sources

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required, or equivalent combination of Bachelor’s degree and experience
  • 5 years of progressive experience or 3 years of experience plus a Master’s degree
  • 1-2 years top tier consulting firm experience with focus on strategic planning OR 3-5 years in a strategic planning function at a large health care system or large organization is desirable
  • M&A and post-merger integration experience is a plus
  • Strong project management, program management and analytical skills while working within tight deadlines and multiple projects.
  • Strong communication and client management skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with senior leadership and lead through influence
  • Strong presentation, communication, relationship management, Excel & PowerPoint skills are required.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
