Job Description

 

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as a Mammography Technologist III (Breast Sonographer) at River East

  

Under the direction of a Radiologist, produces breast radiographs to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. This position requires intimate patient contact, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with initiative and accuracy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to imaging, patient education, data collection and maintaining regulatory compliance.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Reviews the physician’s order to assure appropriateness of the examination being requested
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors based upon breast tissue density, patient’s age, numerical compression scale, and technical equipment characteristics
  • Performs a variety of clinical breast procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for any given examination; evaluates images for diagnostic quality prior to submitting for interpretation
  • Performs breast ultrasounds, as directed by Breast Radiologist
  • Assist physician in set-up and performance of breast interventional procedures
  • Recognizes reports and document malfunctions of technical equipment
  • Assists in the training of new staff and student technologists
  • Maintains physical work environment to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies
  • Adheres to all infection control regulations
  • Performs bone densitometry or automated breast ultrasound exams, where applicable
  • Performs other duties as requested by Lead Technologist and Department Manager

 Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalency 
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography
  • Certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) or the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in Bone Densitometry OR 5 years of relevant experience and proficiency in Automated Breast Ultrasound
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Breast Ultrasound
  • Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate good decision-making and judgment skills
  • Must be able to function in fast-paced environment
  • Maintain required mammography continuing education as mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act
  • Maintain required bone densitometry continuing education as mandated by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry

License or Certifications:

  • American Registry of Radiological Technologists certification
  • American Registry of Radiological Technologists Advanced Certification in Mammography
  • American Registry of Radiological Technologists or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers Certification in Breast Ultrasound
  • International Society for Clinical Densitometry or American Registry of Radiological Technologists in Bone Densitometry certification
  • Illinois Emergency Management Agency licenses
  • CPR Certification

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
