Job Description

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Crown Point, located in Crown Point, Indiana as a Phlebotomist at our Chesterton location. UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago. UChicago Medicine, Crown Point is a two-story, 130,000-square-foot multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Northwest Indiana, the academic health system's largest off-site facility and its first freestanding building in Indiana. 

 

The Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood from outpatients in DCAM and various other locations under minimal supervision. Includes patient and order verification, generation of specimen collection labels, and instruction for random urine collection. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise and in a customer service oriented fashion, adhering to all established policies and procedures.
  • Properly packages specimens for delivery through pneumatic tube system.
  • Stocks blood drawing area and keeps clean, safe, and sterile.
  • Administers glucose tolerance tests and schedules subsequent draws according to dosage times.
  • Provides accurate collection instructions for random urine specimens and process according to policies. 

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • ASCP preferred
  • Training in Phlebotomy from an accredited program; one-two years of practical experience with references.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, push, lift and walk distances up to 6 city blocks in length, and ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
