Job Description

Job Summary 

 

As a part of the Operating Room Supply Chain, the SC Tech III role is to perform inventory management, submit supply requisitions, accept and verify supply deliveries, conducts expiring audits of supplies, stock room location management, support Sterile Processing, and distribute, organize/maintain supplies for use in the procedural/peri-operative areas.  With these responsibilities, the SC Tech III acts as a resource for information pertinent to all supplies kept in the procedural/peri-operative areas at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital.  Stocks temperature sensitive items, tissue, and lab supplies.  Works with vendors and suppliers as needed.  Works closely with the Inventory Planner team to forecast, prepare, and procure product for disruptions and back orders.  Uses surgical schedule to determine what will be needed for upcoming cases.  Attends daily huddles and meetings with clinical/surgical staff as a supply chain representative to discuss daily needs of the unit.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Demonstrates skills using Tableau, Helios, and Oracle.  Performs overstock and slow move/no move reviews and supports supply chain materials management efforts to reduce inventory on hand. Performs data entry of supply orders into the automated materials management information system.
  • Re-stock daily shipments from outside vendors, internal sources, or any procurement method.
  • Audits/verifies shipments for correct units received, matching all shipments with packing lists sent with shipment and/or purchase orders generated from the automated materials management information system and reporting any discrepancies to supply chain supervisor.
  • Accesses automated materials management information system to identify stocking location for products received as needed.  Under supervision of the supply chain supervisor, validate all ASN shipments received from vendor.
  • Communicate daily with clinical/surgical staff regarding issues or outages.  Notify supply chain supervisor of all discrepancies on items ordered and not received. Replenish out of stock conditions within scheduled route.
  • Monitor and maintain established par-level for supplies in the all sterile, peri-operative areas of the IMH, report variance to the supervisor.  Recommends product purchases based on reorder points, min/max levels and par levels; recommends additional supply orders based on surgical activity or in response to clinical staff requests. Support staff members in accessing supplies, and inventory information. Replenishment process may include, but not limited to Kanban, RFID and/or Barcode.
  • Answers the phones in assigned areas to assist customers with a positive tone.  Demonstrate a customer centric approach and a willingness to assist.
  • Attend daily MDI (Manage for Daily Improvement) huddles to discuss work area, metrics, and schedules.  Attendance is mandatory for all MDI huddles.  Performs other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications

 

  • Education: High School Diploma required, Degree preferred and 3 years of experience working in a sterile, Proc/Perioperative, and lab environment in a hospital.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively; orally and in writing.  Be able to demonstrate skills in excel.  Ability to demonstrate computer related tasks relating to data input in the IMH materials management information system.  Helios, Oracle, and RFID experience highly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
