The Medicare Admissions Specialist (IMH Admissions Spec Medicare Nb Representative) is responsible for ensuring that the organization is compliant with CMS guidelines. Ensuring that all Medicare Patients admitted to the facility have received and signed all pertinent Medicare forms. This includes conversing with the patient and/or family members to obtain the most up to date and accurate information. This position requires strong customer service and communication skills both on the phone and in person. This position also requires a strong computer/technical background with the ability to multi-task on different software platforms. Under the general supervision of the Patient Access leadership team, this position performs imperative duties, including but not limited to insurance verification, telephone coverage, data entry, filing protected health information (PHI), and patient referrals, while maintaining patient relations, customer satisfaction, and financial solvency for this institution.
Job Functions
Gathers and verifies all appropriate, confidential health and financial information from patients while using various computer software to assure payment for all authorized services
Enters new patient data and/or verifies patient records are up-to-date, confirms the completeness of the electronic health record (EHR), makes changes as necessary, and files records in accordance with Ingalls Memorial hospital’s filing system
Complies with all organizational, state, and federal laws and registrations related to patient privacy and confidentiality, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)
Responsible for understanding the general principals of Medicare and the Medicare Important Notice Guidelines as published by CMS in the final rule CMS-4105-F
Responsible for identifying via the system the Medicare and Medicare Advantage members admitted to the facility as an inpatient admission.
Caregiver will have direct patient contact with our patients and/or their family members and must have the ability to multi task and explain the Medicare form so the patient and/or family understand their rights as a Medicare beneficiary.
Caregiver will be responsible for re-verifying the patient demographics at bedside if patient and/or family is alert or present.
Caregiver will be responsible for documenting all activity related to the distribution of the Medicare Important Notice, this includes part 1 and part 2 of the notice as this information will be subject to routine internal and external audits.
Caregiver will be responsible for scanning all documents in the appropriate document type in the hospital system.
Caregiver must engage with Case Management and Utilization Review on a frequent basis due to potential patient handoffs as directed by the policy

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
