Job Description

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as our next Director, Health System Clinical Perioperative and Procedural Operations.

 

This position is responsible for the development and direction of all clinical and support operations across the Health System for multiple sites that include the Inpatient ORs, Pediatric OR/PACU, Ambulatory, and Procedural Units The position works directly with the Director, Health System Perioperative and Procedural Business Operations to provide administrative and financial direction for the pillar. The position provides leadership using LEAN process redesign and improvement, workflow and logistics analysis, revenue enhancement, cost reduction and control, capital budgeting, and operations budgeting.  

 

Who You Are

A strong clinical leader who possesses:

  • BSN required. Masters preferred.
  • RN Licensure or eligible for licensure in Illinois.
  • Minimum 10 years of clinical experience with hospital management required with preference for academic medical center experience.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen with a strong knowledge of expense reduction strategies, financial performance measurement, forecasting and budgeting required.
  • Knowledge of Operating Room billing procedures is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of capital acquisition process and skilled in decision making for strategic investments & ROI analysis required.
  • Knowledge of purchasing and supply distribution procedures preferred, along with sterile processing and logistics knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership qualities, and record of related accomplishments required.
  • Able to navigate effectively with high-level internal and external contacts.
  • Extensive knowledge of regulatory standards.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain an effective management structure, operating policies and procedures, and staffing to enhance the operational needs of each site through effective leadership and communication. Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor improvements to site operations including supply utilization, labor utilization, patient flow, and ancillary department support. Identify benchmarked operating standards where efficiencies can be obtained and implement such operational changes.
  • Create strategies for capital acquisition and facility planning, participate in economic payback and supports operational evaluation. Develop, implement, and monitor budget within established guidelines. Establish and monitor labor productivity indicators and metrics.
  • Demonstrate a strong financial acumen through cost-conscious decision-making in collaboration with medical staff on the selection, use, and control of equipment and supplies.
  • Evaluate staffing patterns based on financial constraints, workload needs, qualifications of staff and other resources available to ensure quality patient care, assuring that staff are scheduled in accordance with workload needs and union contracts.
  • Create a work climate that encourages positive staff morale, motivation, and commitment.  Apply interpersonal communication skills to maintain an open network of communication among team members, other health care professionals, and hospital departments.
  • Establish systems that assure open communication with patients, families and members of the health care team concerning the individual patient's plan of care, which includes patient teaching and discharge planning.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
