Job Description

Join a world-class academic healthcare systemUChicago Medicine, as the Director, Nursing Programs at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois.  We are seeking a transformational leader to lead and foster strategic nursing-related programs and ensure nursing quality across Ingalls.  Reporting to the Executive Director & Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, you will be a strategic partner in setting goals and objectives for the program.  

 

The position includes responsibility for the coordination and execution of all aspects of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet program process and will ensure the readiness for application for Magnet designation and re-designation.  The Nursing Program Director serves as the consultative Subject Matter Expert about Magnet for all clinical and support departments, nursing, physicians and administration.  

 

The Nursing Program Director is responsible for measuring quality management dimensions of nursing services.  Finally, the Nursing Program Director will drive continued improvement in nursing practice model adherence and nurse employee satisfaction as measured by engagement scores across all nursing functional areas.  They will inspire the engagement of nurses through compelling messages, programs, and development opportunities to achieve a top-of-license nursing practice and mission-driven nursing culture at Ingalls.   

 

This position is based at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois.   

 

Who you are: 

  • BSN and MSN required.
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Illinois.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience, including operational and budget responsibility in an acute care hospital environment.
  • Experience in a Magnet designated organization is strongly preferred.
  • Credible expert about nursing professional practice with demonstrated experience guiding organizational change towards consistently following nursing professional practice model.
  • Hands-on experience with program management and deployment.
  • Knowledge of continuous process improvement methodology, including Six Sigma or Lean.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative staff.
  • Able to navigate effectively with high-level internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership qualities, and a notable record of accomplishments.

What you’ll do as Director, Nursing Programs: 

  • Provide a systematic approach to the Magnet project management, collect and compile all supporting documentation, apply in depth assessment and analysis to determine organizational readiness for Magnet application process
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to close any gaps in readiness and improve systems and processes to assure compliance with Magnet designation criteria, works with nursing leadership to identify necessary resources to help ensure successful Magnet designation
  • Utilize outside resources, networking, best practices and current evidence to develop integrated organizational interventions to aid in Magnet designation/re-designation. 
  • Develop policies and conduct research relative to maintenance of Magnet status and coordinate submission of abstracts for Magnet conferences and prize awards.
  • Coordinate with senior management and managers/ supervisors to ensure operational problems are resolved that lead to the creation, deployment, and consistent, sustained adoption of enterprise level programs to support nursing engagement, professional practice, and mission-driven culture. 
  • Identify gaps between current state nursing culture and practice and desired future state and develop strategic plans and tactical actions that engage and strengthen the nursing workforce, preparing Ingalls Nursing to meet its future long-term goals. 
  • Establish and maintains a collaborative relationship with nursing colleagues and leadership across Ingalls, demonstrating effective use of communication skills to influence participation and results. 
  • Perform ongoing evaluation of employee satisfaction and engagement focusing on employee communication, motivation, and engagement activities and practices.
  • Lead Ingalls Nursing Quality/NDNQI to ensure consistent level of performance required to maintain Magnet designation.  Direct all phases of comprehensive nursing services policies and practices with appropriate quality metrics.  Draft recommendations concerning needs for growth or metrics changes.
  • Responsible for your own professional needs assessment and evaluation of total role performance, assuming responsibility for meeting those needs and maintaining skills in clinical/professional specialty area.
  • Provide leadership in the development of objectives, standards of care, policies, procedures and quality improvement initiatives.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
