Job Description

Join one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers, UChicago Medicine, as a Senior Project Manager – System PMO. This position is based on-site at Hyde Park, with remote flexibility. Some travel to alternate site locations around Chicagoland will be required.  

 

This position is responsible for facilitating successful project delivery including the planning, scheduling, execution, and closing of all assigned projects within an established budget and schedule. The Sr. Project Manager- System PMO utilizes Project Management (PM) methodologies, while managing all project team members (organizational resources and engaged third party vendors/consultants) to deliver solutions according to project scope and goals. This position supports the execution and coordination of the projects of multiple team members and leaders, overseeing relevant project documents and deliverables and reporting on progress throughout the project life cycle as well as acquiring a deep understanding of UChicago Medicine’s internal administrative systems and existing capabilities, in order to support the operations team in the efforts to drive operational efficiencies and provide solutions to a variety of business challenges. The Sr. Project Manager provides coaching and support for less experienced colleagues. They exemplify the UChicago Medicine mission, vision and values and act in accordance with system policies and procedures. 

  

Essential Job Functions   

  • Effectively manages multiple projects simultaneously leveraging required and available resources as needed, develops scaled project plans and associated communication documents utilizing standard tools.  
  • Proactively manages potential scope and schedule changes. Where required, escalates based upon standards established within communication plan. 
  • Directs and manages project development and progress from beginning to end, including guidance of teams as they work with project sponsors and business stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, tasks, milestones, budgets, and measures of success.  
  • Identifies project dependencies and critical path, resolves issues/conflicts and/or escalates where appropriate. Conducts project lessons learned sessions and creates recommendations report to develop best practices and tools for project execution and management. 
  • Establishes project governance with key leaders and stakeholders, acts as a liaison between stakeholders, and facilitates governance activities to ensure leadership effectively clears roadblocks, strengthens understanding of business-aligned goals, and promotes the success of the project. 
  • Drafts and submits budget proposals, including the planning, estimating, and overall control of project costs; recommends subsequent budget changes as necessary to ensure project is delivered on time and within budget. 
  • Identifies and manages project resource needs and goals - strategies, staffing, scheduling, issue resolution, contingency plans, communication plans, and change control.  
  • Negotiates where necessary with contractors and internal department managers for the acquisition of required personnel. 
  • Facilitate or participates in routine project team meetings to establish and continually manage project requirements and expectations with team members and other stakeholders 
  • Coaches, mentors, and motivates project team members and contractors, influencing them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.  
  • Builds, develops, and grows any business relationships vital to the success of the project. Provides project management coaching and mentoring to others in the organization. 
  • Tracks and reports status (progress, next steps, issues) against project plans to appropriate stakeholders and senior management based upon agreed to communication plans.  
  • Determines the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyzes results and troubleshoots problem areas. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

Required Qualifications   

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, projection management, health care or related discipline 
  • Professional in Project Management (PMP) or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred 
  • 6 years of project management experience 
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills 
  • Proficient and functional knowledge of MS Office (including Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, Outlook) and Project Management software 
  • Thorough knowledge of formal project management methodologies and proven skill in effective execution 
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills 
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels in the organization. 
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and competency regarding lean tools, methods and mindset 
  • Hours outside normal business hours may be occasionally required to meet project deadlines 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Lean Six Sigma certification 
  • Ability to execute project management leveraging Lean process improvement methodology

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
