Job Description

Join one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers, UChicago Medicine, as a Sr. Quality Improvement Project Manager. This position is based on-site at Hyde Park, with remote flexibility. Some travel to alternate site locations around Chicagoland will be required.  

 

Quality Performance Improvement (QPI) supports clinically focused improvement endeavors to understand, improve and sustain high-value, patient-centered care across the community. Under the direction and in support of Clinical Excellence, QPI advances organizational priorities aligned with strategic and annual operating plans, Clinical Excellence Priority Scorecard Measures, and quality goals. In partnership with clinical and operational leaders, QPI team members implement sustainable improvements to ensure UChicago Medicine practices evidence-based care with high reliability, transform health care by testing new ways to deliver value-based care, and solve the challenging problems in healthcare through new innovations. Quality Performance Improvement team members skillfully apply methods and tools within the core competencies of quality improvement and process improvement, project management, and group facilitation to achieve project aims aligned with organizational goals. Team members work effectively with diverse roles across the system to identify inefficiencies, develop solutions, and lead improvement initiatives across the system.  

 

Essential Job Functions 

  • Program/Portfolio Management 
  • Manage a group of related projects and serve as a point of contact in the organization and on the team for assigned projects 
  • Facilitate the planning and development of quality plans for a related group of projects tied to annual quality goals 
  • Project Management 
  • Oversees the planning, design, implementation, and completion of small to medium projects with support from supervisor 
  • Executes project plan and provides daily support for moving the project forward on large strategic initiatives with support from QIPM or supervisor 
  • Identifies and communicates alignment and impact of project plans on related projects within the QPI portfolio and across the organization 
  • Identifies and manages project risks. 
  • Quality improvement and Process Design Expertise 
  • Facilitates the use of standard QI and PI tools 
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to team members on use of QI tools/approaches 
  • Navigates and facilitates the distinction between quality improvement and research, and the potential intersections 
  • Represents the QPI team and offers quality improvement expertise in committee meetings as needed. 
  • Group Facilitation 
  • Develop and carry out the strategy for the facilitation of multidisciplinary meetings and design sessions 
  • Develops coherent, actionable summaries from the input of many stakeholders generated during meetings and design sessions 
  • Facilitates decision making to achieve consensus on plans and next steps with stakeholder buy-in 
  • Expertly navigate relationships and problem-solving during meetings with front line staff, hospital leadership. 
  • Analytics/Data-Driven Approach 
  • Collaborate with data teams within UCM to ensure data and analytics needs of assigned projects are satisfied and garner the most effective clinical monitors and insight to drive improvement, while allowing for efficient analytics processes 
  • Identify data collection and analysis needs as appropriate when relevant data does not exist electronically, design efficient data collection and analysis plans to meet those needs 
  • Collaborate data teams within UCM on measure development, analysis, and report generation processes 
  • Utilize available data and reports to identify potential trends, root causes 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, engineering, or performance improvement field  
  • Possess a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a healthcare, performance improvement, project management, or other advanced position 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff, including physicians and administrative staff 
  • Experience facilitating groups with many different stakeholder 
  • Ability to elicit cooperation and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external leaders 
  • Knowledge of performance improvement techniques and methodologies 
  • Ability to independently coordinate projects among many functional units; applying project management experience and knowledge of project management tools and techniques 
  • Ability to plan, lead and execute large scale projects with major impacts on clinical operations and outcomes 
  • Ability to manage, interpret, and present data 
  • Self-motivated: given appropriate direction for goals, must be able to work autonomously in a sometimes ambiguous and changing environment 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master's degree in public health, healthcare administration, business administration, nursing, or other health care-related field 
  • Possess a minimum of 2-3 years’ Performance Improvement experience in Hospital, or large Health System 
  • Experience with clinical terminology.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
