Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Fixed Asset Accountant .This position will be primarily work from home opportunity with the requirment to come onsite as needed. You may be based outside of the greater chicagoland area.

 

 

The Fixed Asset Accountant Specialist is responsible maintaining the day-to-day aspects of the accounting for fixed assets within the Oracle Cloud PPM ERP Module and the Fixed Asset ERP Module including processing the capital project transactions as an end to end process to identify capital transactions for final asset creation, tracking of existing assets, recognition of depreciation expense and full accounting for retirement and disposition of assets.

 

This includes understanding capital project scope and corporate capital policy qualifications for capital assets. Create accounting for transactions, journal entries, account analysis and exceptions including managing interface files for import of miscellaneous capital transactions to capital projects.  Perform maintenance to assets that are moved or transferred to other departments and locations.  Confirm activation/in use/turnover dates with end uses, project managers, clinical engineering services, Trimedx and other departments leaders to ensure that assets are created and placed in service both accurately and timely. Capture all necessary asset descriptions, identifications, tag numbers and locations for all created assets Verifies asset information, transaction details, and accounting entries through inquiry and reports.

 

Collaborate with various departments (Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Capital Project Management Teams, Department Leaders, and Budget Office) on end-to-end capital process.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Monitor and analyze capital projects transactions in PPM module for all capital projects. This includes new constructions, renovations, leasehold improvements, land, land improvements and equipment. Ensure all capital projects and purchases meet the GAAP/Capital Policy requirements.
  • Interfaces capital transactions from PPM project to Fixed Asset module when ready for asset creation. Performs asset transactions including additions, adjustments, transfers, and retirements, gains/losses on disposals ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual balance sheet account reconciliations for all fixed asset accounts which include property, depreciation expense, accumulated depreciation, gain/(loss) on asset disposed accounts, including researching, documenting and resolving account variances
  • Work with outside 3rd party vendors on periodic physical counts of fixed asset inventories
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Recommend capital policy changes and process improvements to management

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Capital projects, capital budgets, capital fixed asset creation and maintenance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues independently
  • Strong GAAP knowledge, finance analytical skills, and problem-solving skills
  • ERP knowledge such as Oracle Cloud, Oracle EBS, Lawson ERP
  • Knowledge of AHA guidelines (Hospital Asset Guidelines)
  • Understanding of US GAAP Guidelines
  • Proficient at Excel, queries, and uploads
  • High level analytical ability

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
