Job Description

Join us at the forefont at Ingalls Memorial as a Chaplain in Harvey!

 

The Chaplain has the responsibility to develop pastoral service programs for assigned patient care units. They assist in the establishment and continuing implementation of departmental programs with and for area clergy and religious groups. This position reports directly to the Director of Community.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Shares responsibility for being “on-call” for crisis ministries either during regular work hours or at other posted times.

  • Effectively manage time.

  • Encourages and facilitates referrals related to specific patients from physicians, nurses, local clergy, patients’ families or other team members.

  • Provides limited counseling to staff personnel of the hospital and make appropriate referrals, and informs Director of the Department on the number of hours spent weekly in such service.

  • Cooperates with the Director in planning and conducting corporate services of worship for patients in the hospital chapel.

  • Limits pastoral functioning to the hospital community and respects the prerogatives of the established religious community in the area served by the hospital.

  • Keeps in focus the community orientation of the organization and participates in community functions as time permits.

  • Adhere at all times to Ingalls service standards and conduct guidelines.

  • Assists the Director in establishing and implementing departmental goals, policies and programs.
  • Plans, organizes and implements an effective program of pastoral services for the assigned patient care units.
  • Attends appropriate Patient Care Conference, Medical Staff departmental educational conferences and weekly educational meetings of the Department of Pastoral Services.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with all members of the health team, especially in the assigned patient care units. Informal and effective relationships must also be developed and maintained with area clergy and religious groups.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the department.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Ordained as a clergyman in good standing and shall be endorsed by the ecclesiastical body to which they belong.
  • Degree of A.B. or B.S. in an accredited college or university required.
  • Graduate of an accredited seminary or rabbinical school with the degree of Master of Divinity or its equivalent.
  • Successful completion of four quarters of Clinical Pastoral Education at an accredited center preferred.
  • A certification by the College of Chaplains is also required within the first year of employment. The Chaplain shall have responsible experience as a parish clergyman and as hospital chaplain or chaplain intern.
