Job Description

In this role the Senior Manager, Transplant Finance Operations will be responsible for managing financial operations related to transplant cost reporting, payer reimbursement, and financial compliance. This role will focus on Medicare cost reporting, PKE (Paired Kidney Exchange) reimbursement, living donor billing, and financial work queues for all transplant recipients for all organs (work Qs). The position plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, optimizing reimbursement, and supporting operational decision-making. The Transplant Institute’s Financial Transplant Specialist team will report up to this position, as they will have the expertise and industry knowledge to inform and educate the specialists on CMS regulations and reduce missed reimbursements, compliance issues that could result in financial penalties, and waste.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage and prepare Medicare Transplant Cost Reports in compliance with CMS regulations.
  • Analyze transplant-related expenses and allocate costs appropriately within cost reports.
  • Work closely with finance and compliance teams to optimize reimbursement strategies.
  • Assist in annual financial audits and provide necessary documentation.
  • PKE & Living Donor Billing
  • Oversee billing and reimbursement for Paired Kidney Exchange (PKE) cases, ensuring proper payer allocation.
  • Manage living donor transplant billing, including coordination with payers, tracking reimbursement, and addressing denials.
  • Monitor payer contracts to ensure proper billing and reimbursement practices.
  • Process and review financial work queues (Work Qs) to ensure proper charge capture and reimbursement for all organs.
  • Identify and resolve billing discrepancies, ensuring accurate transplant financial data.
  • Collaborate with revenue cycle teams to address claim denials and appeals related to transplant services.
  • Develop financial models and reimbursement projections for transplant programs.
  • Analyze payer reimbursement trends to support financial decision-making.
  • Work closely with transplant leadership to provide financial insights and operational recommendations.
  • Partner with Transplant Finance, Revenue Cycle, and Compliance teams to improve billing workflows.
  • Ensure adherence to Medicare, Medicaid, and private payer billing guidelines.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline transplant cost reporting and financial processes.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or 15 years of aggressive

experience with transplant financial operations in an academic medical center or large health system or a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in transplant finance, revenue cycle, or healthcare reimbursement.
  • Expertise in Medicare cost reporting and reimbursement regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of transplant billing, PKE reimbursement, and living donor financial processes.
  • Experience working with Epic Work Qs or similar financial workflow systems.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
