Pulmonary Function Supervisor/Technichal Director

 

We're hiring a Pulmonary Function Supervisor/Technichal Director, for the Respiratory Care Services department for a full-time day shift for the University of Chicago Medicine in Orland Park, IL.

This position requires that the technologist has superior skill and knowledge of all pulmonary function laboratory procedures and equipment. In addition to performing the duties of pulmonary function technician, this person has additional responsibilities, which contribute to the efficient day-to-day operation of the pulmonary function laboratory. The Technical Director confers with the Medical Directors of the laboratories on medical and technical issues and is responsible for all operational aspects of this patient service facility.

    

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Develops and administers long and short-term goals to increase revenue, become more cost efficient, improve the quality of the service, and to further develop the growth of the Pulmonary Function Laboratories.
  • Develops, negotiates, monitors and administers capital equipment and annual operating budgets. (Level 3 authorized signature)
  • Develops procedures and guidelines for the Pulmonary Function Laboratories (Pulmonary Function Laboratory Manual) as well as administers the University of Chicago Hospital guidelines and procedures.
  • Supervises, evaluates, disciplines, hires and dismisses subordinates.
  • Utilizes resources effectively to increase productivity.
  • Monitors the quality of service.
  • Trains and supervises technical support staff
  • Performs pulmonary function tests.
  • Orchestrates cardiopulmonary exercise tests and home oxygen therapy evaluations; determines which protocol is appropriate, orients physician overseeing procedure, and assigns task.
  • Makes final clinical judgment and acts as a resource person for technologists.
  • Works with Infection Control to determine guidelines.
  • Assists in formulation of new procedures based on clinical needs.
  • Responds to innovative technical requests: developed method by which ventilatory parameters on ventilator patients in the ICU can be determined; developed and /or adapted techniques for research protocols, and for case presentations.
  • Develops calibration and quality control procedures.
  • Analyzes quality control data and takes appropriate action to maintain manufacturers’ performance specifications.
  • Performs complex troubleshooting procedures and/or equipment repair.
  • Supervises technicians on the proper method of calibration for all pulmonary function equipment.
  • Develops maintenance procedures for each piece of equipment.
  • Develops technician inservices to satisfy the requirements of regulatory agencies.
  • Teaches technical aspects of pulmonary function procedures, equipment and quality control to physicians, medical students, nurses and staff.
  • Creates spreadsheet and graphic printout for blood gas quality control data.
  • Performs other duties as requested by senior management.

 

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree.
  • Six years pulmonary function experience with thorough knowledge of routine and advanced procedures.
  • Three years supervisory experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electronic pulmonary function equipment.
  • Ability to analyze quality control data
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
