Job Description

Join UChicago Medicine, as a Quality Assurance Coordinator in the Sterile Processing Department.  

 

In this role as a Quality Assurance Coordinator, you will work under the primary direction of the CSP manager and in conjunction with the Assistant Director and Clinical Director of Perioperative Services and Central Sterile Processing (CSP) in order to facilitate the efficient preparation of all instrumentation. The ability to interact professionally with exceptional communication skills with individuals of many skill levels within the department and throughout the hospital is essential.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Supports the clinical needs related to efficient patient care by ensuring quality instrumentation is provided according to utilization throughput.
  • Partners with all vendors for the maintenance of instrumentation necessary to enhance the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Partners for the education of staff on use of specialty equipment/instrumentation.
  • Reviews the surgical schedule in advance to assure all needed instrumentation for surgical cases are present and if not available makes arrangements to have the needed items turned over, or coordinate with the OR to provide adequate substitutions.
  • Contacts and follows through with vendors regarding specialty equipment as necessary.
  • Directs instrument tray accuracy through re-ordering missing/damaged instruments conducting quality audits, sign-offs on missing instrumentation and communication with the appropriate person regarding missing instrumentation.
  • Responsible for regularly meeting with CSP manager and OR specialty team leaders and reviewing, correcting and updating countsheets  in collaboration with the specialty team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of recognized Health Care Management or Health Care Administration program and/or Central Sterile Processing certification (CRCST or CSPDT) required.
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in Sterile Processing required. 

  • Ability to make decisions quickly in a fast paced environment with constantly changing priorities.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal skills and problem solving abilities required.

  • Ability to apply interpersonal communication skills to maintain an open network of communication among staff members and other health care professionals.

  • Ability to comply with medical center policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressive experience in directing staff preferred
  • Associate’s degree and/or Sterile Processing Technician Certification  and Surgical Instrument Specialist Certifications preferred

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
