Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Care Network, as a Registered Dietitian at our Flossmoor clinic. Here, you will work with our Endocrinology team with a focus on Diabetes. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

 

In this role you will partner with the clinical team in Endocrinology to provide patients with the highest quality of care.  As a Registered Dietitian, your primary responsibilities will be to optimize the health status of adult and pediatric patients with diabetes by providing chronic disease management therapies and diabetes self-management education (DSMES). As part of an American Diabetes Association Diabetes Education Recognition Program, you will perform duties in support of, and in compliance with the National Standards of DSMES and with requirements of regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agencies.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work in partnership with the interprofessional team and patients to develop plan of care and coordinate care delivery.  
  • Provide patient-centered, evidence based DSMES and MNT including motivational interviewing and teach-back methods in one-on-one and group/class settings.
  • Identify, assess, and address patient goals and barriers for improving their health status and management of health conditions.  Provide patients with education about the disease process and offer tools and skills needed to achieve self-management goals, including avoiding and treating acute and long term diabetes and other health related complications.
  • Provide evidence-based DSMES including, but not limited to basic and advanced carbohydrate counting; weight, lipid and HTN management; use of glucometer or CGM; review of blood glucose goals and interpretation of patient home glucose monitoring and food logs, training of self-injectable diabetes medications.
  • Utilize the Nutrition Care Process to proactively assess, provide nutrition diagnoses, interventions, monitor and evaluate patients’ response to therapeutic interventions and reassess patients’ in-person, on the phone or via patient portal as needed in collaboration with the care team.
  • Perform RD job duties within scope and licensure as needed in clinic. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Nutrition, Dietetics or other relevant major
  • Three(+) years of clinical experience
  • Must either have an MS degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or other relevant major OR a specialty certification relevant to position (e.g. Certified Specialist in Pediatrics, Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, Certified Specialist in Oncology, CDCES, Certified Specialist in Renal)
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist/Certified Diabetes Educator credential OR Board Certified-Advanced Diabetes Management credential
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration with successful completion of coordinated program, dietetic internship, or other experience approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetic Education
  • Maintenance of RD status through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) by accrual of 75 units of approved Continuing Professional Education every 5 years.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with patients and staff from diverse cultural, educational, and ethnic background
  • Computer literacy (minimum Outlook, Word, Excel, Epic)
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with American Diabetes Association education recognition program standards
  • Experience as a Registered Dietitian in an Ambulatory setting
  • CDCES (CDE) or BC-ADM

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
