Job Description

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital, as the Chief Development Officer responsible for overall strategy, oversight and direction for the Ingalls Development Foundation.

 

The Ingalls Chief Development Officer is responsible for all office administrative functions including strategic planning, the preparation of operating plans, budgets, financial oversight and controls, branding, marketing and communications. This leader will oversee the management and support of a structure consisting of volunteer board members who meet regularly to provide volunteer leadership and governance. The Officer will personally manage a portfolio of prospects to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major and principal gifts for Ingalls.

 

The Chief Development Officer is responsible for recruitment, hiring, training, oversight and evaluation of direct reports. In this capacity, this leader will build a culture of giving based upon industry best-practices for annual support, major and principal gifts, planned giving, corporate-foundation grants, and event-based strategies. The Officer will also execute effective qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans to sustain and grow the prospect-donor pool. Additionally, the Chief Development Officer will work with Ingalls Memorial executive leadership to create and implement annual philanthropy plans and goals using metrics, and based upon priorities of the institution, then ensure regularly reporting on progress toward said metrics. 

 

The Ingalls Chief Development Officer serves as the primary channel of communication between the Ingalls Development Foundation and the Medicine and Biological Sciences Development (MBSD) team.

 

Who you are:

 

A team-oriented and highly organized philanthropy leader with a high level of work integrity and ethical standards and:

  • Bachelor degree in business or similar; Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in non-profit philanthropy (academic, healthcare or similar) with an emphasis on major gift solicitation.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience in the field of philanthropy managing a portfolio that blends major gifts, corporate gifts, grants and event type of fundraising preferred.
  • Passion for growing and mentoring philanthropy teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate impactfully while demonstrating a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Knowledge of modern approaches to philanthropy and fundraising.
  • Expertise in qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects through strategic engagement and relationship-building initiatives.

  

What you’ll do as the Chief Development Officer:

  • Develop and obtain approval for Ingalls Development Foundation’s annual fundraising goals.
  • Coordinate with Ingalls executive leadership and IDF Board projects that will be supported by the Foundation for the year.
  • Determine and coordinate events that the Foundation will host
  • Oversee all grant applications to support Ingalls Memorial strategy
  • Administer fundraising programs for: (1) grateful patients, (2) grants, (3) EDGE, (4) corporate gifts, (5) major gifts, (6) events.
  • Coordinate with Chair of IDF and President of Ingalls to prepare agenda and presentations for the IDF board meetings.
  • Determine appropriate staffing needs to deliver results based on fundraising goals.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Ingalls Development Foundation staff to promote their development while delivering on objectives.
  • Work with Ingalls Development Foundation Board members, Ingalls leadership, medical staff, and UChicago Biological Sciences Division Development Office to identify prospects for fundraising opportunities.
  • Analyze the data for grateful patient and major gift opportunities.
  • Connect with local and national corporations for grant or corporate giving opportunities.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
