Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Stragegic Sourcing Manager,  in the Supply Chain Department. This position is a LOCAL HYBRID REMOTE opportunity.

 

Job Summary

The Strategic Sourcing Manager, reporting directly to the Director of Strategic Sourcing, is responsible for managing the strategic sourcing process and contract administration across a designated portfolio of products and services related to Indirect Spend Categories. This role includes managing, training, and developing Sourcing Category Leaders and Sourcing Analysts to achieve key organizational and departmental objectives. The Sourcing Manager collaborates closely with the Director of Strategic Sourcing and other Senior Leaders across the designated portfolio to develop and implement effective sourcing and contracting strategies that not only align with the organizations objectives, but also supports the innovation and growth of the UChicago Medicine health system.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Leads and inspires Sourcing Category Leaders and/or Analysts to support Value Analysis Teams (VAT) under direction of Director, Strategic Sourcing.
  • Promotes a culture of growth by managing, developing, and training direct reports to achieve organization and department objectives.
  • Independently secures data from suppliers and internal sources, and performs effective analysis of findings to DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT and MONITOR supplier strategies and relationships in all aspects of cost, quality, delivery, technology and service. Performs contract review, analysis and negotiations.
  • Formulates and executes sourcing and value analysis strategies for various departments including Human Resources, Marketing, Supply Chain, Support Services, Finance, and other Administrative departments to help achieve Annual Operating Plan targets.
  • Manages the solicitation of Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Quote (RFQs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs) as required by Director.
  • Conducts comprehensive industry research, leads supplier meetings, and negotiations.
  • Executes contract renewals, service and maintenance agreements, and unique sourcing activities for assigned categories. Prepares negotiation plan and executes to achieve Annual Operating Plan goals. Develops strategies to improve contracting process. Assists in the development of negotiation strategies, identifies areas of contract risk, provides contract guidance and offers alternatives for management of such risks through providing alternate contract suggestions.
  • Supports Lean process initiatives through use of 5S, Value Stream Maps, and Kaizen improvement events. Recognizes opportunities to maximize savings and increase efficiencies through shorter cycle times, first time quality measures, and process mapping, and drives changes accordingly.
  • Provides effective communication to Sr. UCM Leadership, co-workers, and suppliers to establish collaborative communication, especially as related to activity status of supply chain initiatives. Serves as a professional and knowledgeable representative of organization to outside suppliers. Represents the organization in contract dispute resolution with vendors.
  • Actively engages in professional development to maintain current skills and knowledge of business trends and best practices. Works to present best practices of UCM Strategic Sourcing process to industry.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Engineering
  • Five (5) plus years’ healthcare sourcing work experience
  • Lean/Process Improvement, process mapping
  • Materials - Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP)
  • Strong analytical abilities including high aptitude for Microsoft Excel, Access, Visio, Project, PowerPoint, and Word. Strategic Sourcing and Total Cost of Ownership improvement process experience.
  • Complex contract management and negotiations.
  • Ability to train and mentor new employees.
  • E-Sourcing, spend analytics experience, and benchmarking tools use Practical knowledge of the broader supply chain & logistics business requirements and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse cross-functional work teams and form strong relationships with medical staff leaders and clinicians.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Six Sigma experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing other sourcing professionals, including category leaders and/or analysts
  • Sourcing & Contracting experience
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence internal/ external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage and adapt to changing priorities

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
