Job Description

Join one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic medical centers, UChicago Medicine, as a Senior Office 365 Server Engineer for the Information Technology department.  

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Office 365 Server Engineer with a strong background in managing Windows Server environments and extensive expertise in Microsoft 365 administration. In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining and optimizing our organization's server infrastructure while also managing and supporting our Microsoft 365 environment. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless and efficient IT environment that aligns with UCM’s business goals. Essential Job Functions 

 

Microsoft 365 Administration:  

  • Manage and maintain Microsoft 365 tenant, including user accounts, licenses, and security settings. 
  • Configure and maintain Microsoft 365 applications, such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive for Business. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement and manage email policies, security measures, and compliance requirements. 

 

Windows Server Management: 

  • Design, implement, and manage Windows Server environments to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. 
  • Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software components. 
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform regular system updates and patches. 

 

Active Directory and Identity Management: 

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Active Directory infrastructure, including user and group management, Group Policy, and domain services. 
  • Ensure proper integration between on-premises Active Directory and Azure Active Directory for seamless user authentication and access management. 

 

System Security: 

  • Implement and enforce security best practices for both Windows Server environments and Microsoft 365 services. 
  • Monitor and respond to security incidents, conduct regular security assessments, and apply necessary security updates and patches. 

 

Documentation and Training:  

  • Maintain thorough documentation of server configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. 
  • Provide training and knowledge sharing sessions to junior team members and end-users. 

 

Collaboration and Communication: 

  • Work closely with IT teams and departments to understand business requirements and provide technical solutions. 
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on project progress and system health. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field (or equivalent experience) 
  • PowerShell expertise  
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Windows Server administration and 5 years of hands-on experience with Office 365 administration 
  • Strong expertise in Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows security protocols 
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies, particularly Azure, and experience with hybrid cloud environments 
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and task management 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues 
  • Industry certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, and Office 365 certifications are a plus 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
