Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Financial Analyst III for the Financial Planning department at our Hyde Park location. This position will be primarily work from home opportunity with the requirment to come onsite as needed. You may be based outside of the greater chicagoland area.

 

The Analyst III serves as a trusted finance partner to operational, clinical, and strategic leadership across the University of Chicago Medicine's enterprise and provides cross functional insights to operational, clinical, and service line leadership across the University of Chicago Medicine's enterprise - employing advanced analytical skills, technical tools and software, and reporting and modeling to evaluate the financial health of the organization and guide senior executives in financial decision making and performance improvement.

 

The Analyst III leverages business knowledge and analytical tools to manage a suite of medium scale analytical projects in partnership with diverse key stakeholders across the organization to identify inefficiencies, develop solutions, and lead strategic improvement initiatives across the system.

 

The Analyst III will lead key finance initiatives with functional leadership - reporting on cost optimization, revenue performance, and profitability trends and leveraging data storytelling to translate complex insights into actionable recommendations for improvement.

 

The Analyst III collaborates with leadership across Finance Shared Services, Operations, Strategic Planning, Managed Care, Clinical Departments, Information Technology, Service Lines, and others to achieve financial planning initiatives across the enterprise.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Collaborate with finance stakeholders to create and scale analytic solutions for the enterprise for medium sized projects
  • Builds and implements analytic models and/or tools that help drive system insights, provide actionable information and support leadership decision making.
  • Provides advanced, independent financial assessments including business plans and pro forma development that feed into the operating and capital budget.
  • Analyzes department trends, identifies patterns, and identifies areas of opportunity to improve financial performance for medium sized projects
  • Partner on strategic decision support projects critical to determining costs, revenues, and profitability of enterprise endeavors - including hospital and physician activity.
  • Independently executes on financial modeling methodologies and techniques to provide analytics with actionable insights for clinical leadership, and streamline the annual planning cycle.
  • Identify key issues and synthesize complex information into clear talking points and action items
  • Provides tactical support to Finance and cross-functional leadership on developing the UCM Enterprise annual operating budget targets for volumes, revenue, and expenses
  • Leverages financial and operational knowledge gained from an outward position in the organization in order to inform volume, revenue, and expense planning for UCM's annual operating budget and monthly reforecast.
  • Manages department-level business planning and review sessions to identify key variances and drive accountable action plans pertinent to budget planning, forecasting, performance improvement, and long-term financial strategies.
  • Provide tactical support of data integration and maintenance efforts with UCMIT and Strata system
  • Develop data quality and audit processes for financial reporting
  • Create clear documentation for each project, define inclusions/exclusions, and maintain documentation and code
  • Partner with data teams within UCM to ensure data and analytics needs of assigned projects are satisfied and garner the most effective clinical monitors and insight to drive improvement, while allowing for efficient analytics processes
  • Identify data collection and analysis needs as appropriate when relevant data does not exist electronically
  • Develop advanced skills in data analysis, visualization, and storytelling.
  • Employs best practices for report writing including knowledge of standard metric definitions and building inclusion and exclusion criteria for defining patient populations.
  • Collaborate with cross functional leadership to continually identify and evaluate high-value margin improvement opportunities across the enterprise.
  • Executes the planning, design, implementation, and completion of mid-range projects with support from supervisor and team members
  • Self-directs time to meet project deadlines. Ensure timely completion of work to meet stakeholder    expectations of deliverables.
  • Facilitate workplan development with clinical and operational leads and functional teams to focus key discussions, decisions, and action items
  • Facilitate project meetings, employing facilitation skills to identify and escalate complex negotiations or issues
  • Define project KPIs throughout the project life cycle
  • Reviews data queries and report outputs for accuracy.
  • Develops technical and operational knowledge of UCM data sources and systems such as Strata Management & Productivity Reporting, Tableau, Kronos, Epic, and Oracle.
  • Proficient in data analysis, visualization, and storytelling and serves as an educational resource across the team.
  • Proficient in Enterprise BI technology.
  • Develops best practices for report writing with support from supervisor and team members
  • Utilizes technical skills to create financial dashboards, refine forecasting methodologies, and automate manual processes across financial planning functions.
  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge of data systems and query languages.
  • Mentor analysts and fellows
  • Provide feedback and active improvements to enhance the Finance Fellow program
  • A resource for other report developers to learn best practices.
  • Offers constructive feedback in a professional manner

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other related field.  Master's degree preferred.

  • 7+ years of analytical experience required, ideally in a health care setting

  • 1+ years of experience leading BI project development preferred

  • 2+ years experience in data analysis tools preferred: Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, Excel (advanced with formulas and macros), QlikView, SAS, or other statistical software

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
