Job Description

Join Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Public Safety Supervisor in the Security Department at Ingalls Hospital.

 

The primary function of this position will be to oversee the daily operations of the Security Department. The incumbent will manage security staff in providing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors in or around the hospital property area. In addition, the position will safe guard hospital property, equipment and supplies. The position will be required to work as a uniformed Security Officer, in order to supplement Security staff on all shifts, as needed. Rotating shifts may be required to address staffing needs of the 24/7 department.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Participates in LEAN initiatives to mitigate waste and enhance productivity within the department. Monitors employee productivity and monitors all employee paperwork for accuracy.

  • Prepares work schedules, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as needed and/or required, regarding security and other related systems.
  • Assists with the maintenance and testing of all security related systems.
  • Provides Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

  • Assists with other requirements, such as, but not limited to, First Responder, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI), TB Mask Fitting, Firearm requirements, Radiation Safety, Annual Competencies, etc.

  • Demonstrates the ability to respond positively to change in order to maximize the opportunity, minimize the problem, and provide support to staff during times of change.
  • Displays a positive and supportive attitude and represents the department and the hospital in a positive manner to customers, visitors and vendors.
  • The ability to deal effectively, empathetically, but professionally with patients and the general public.
  • Treat all people with dignity and maintain a courteous and pleasant attitude to all patients, family members and staff.
  • Proactively seeks out information needed to satisfy customer requirements.
  • Remains professional and helpful when interfacing with customers who might be confused, upset or angry.
  • Anticipates champions and takes reasonable risks in satisfying customer needs across functions.
  • Follows up with customers to ensure appropriate solutions.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment and hospital culture by exhibiting and nurturing service excellence concepts.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma 
  • One to three years of previous experience in healthcare security / public safety leadership and knowledge of security systems, procedures and enforcement codes
  • Minimum of five to seven years of previous experience in healthcare security or public safety field 
  • State of Illinois 40-Hour Armed Security Officer Certification (Semi-Automatic firearm)
  • Working knowledge of healthcare regulatory compliance standards and Illinois criminal law
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid Illinois Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) Card
  • State of Illinois 40-Hour Armed Security Officer Certification (Semi-Automatic firearm)
  • State of Illinois Firearm Control Card (issued after hire and upon arrival from State of Illinois)
  • CPR Certification
  • CPI Certification (completed upon hire)
  • Must obtain IAHSS Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor (CHSS) and Health and Safety certifications within six months of appointment.
  • Must complete required FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 level courses within six months of appointment.  

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
  • IAHSS Basic and Advanced Healthcare Security Officer Certification

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
