Job Description

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Crown Point, located in Crown Point, Indiana, as a (Oncology) Dietitian.  UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago.  UChicago Medicine, Crown Point is a new two-story, 130,000-square-foot multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Northwest Indiana for what will be the academic health system's largest off-site facility and its first freestanding building in Indiana. 

 

The Crown Point care center will include:

  • A micro-hospital with an eight-bed emergency department and a short-stay inpatient unit
  • A comprehensive cancer center with infusion therapy as well as radiation, medical and surgical oncology
  • An imaging center with MRI, CT, PET, X-ray and ultrasound capabilities
  • An outpatient surgery center
  • Laboratory services
  • Medical offices with access to UChicago Medicine’s physicians and specialists, including those in cancer care, cardiology, digestive diseases, orthopaedics, neurosciences, pediatrics, primary care, surgical specialties, transplant care and women’s health

The Dietitian will assess nutrition status, establish nutrition diagnosis(es), develop intervention strategies and monitor/evaluate nutrition care plans in inpatient and/or outpatient settings. Perform duties in support of, and in compliance with, performance improvement plans, and with requirements of regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agencies. Educate patients, caregivers, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members about the effectiveness of therapeutic diets and nutrition support regiments to improve/maintain nutritional status and establish optimal outcomes.

 

Primary Job Functions:

Performs the nutrition care process (nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis and determination of care goals, nutrition intervention, and monitoring and evaluation) for patients with multiple and/or complex conditions and others identified per department standards as in need of nutrition care. Provides age-specific patient education (assessment of learning needs and barriers to learning; communication with patient/caregivers and integration of counseling theory to effect behavior change) and develop materials as needed to augment the education process. This includes (as appropriate to specific position) but is not limited to:

  • Calculates nutrient requirements and intake
  • Assesses need for and determines appropriate composition, rate, etc. of enteral tube feeding and standard parenteral nutrition for critically ill and/or medically complex patients, if applicable.
  • Uses computer programs to access information and communicate with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Documents clinical care according to organizational guidelines.
  • Oversees daily work of / mentors Registered Dietitian I positions.
  • Confers and communicates regularly with interdisciplinary team members about patient needs and problems.
  • Precepts RD staff members, dietetic interns, dietetic students, and students from other disciplines as assigned
  • Keeps current with nutrition and dietetics research and incorporates into daily practice.

Qualifications:

BS/BA in Nutrition, Dietetics or other relevant major

Must either have an MS degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or other relevant major or a specialty certification relevant to position (e.g. Certified Specialist in Pediatrics, Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, Certified Specialist in Oncology, Certified Specialist in Renal).

 

Licensure/Certifications:

Indiana License

Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration with successful completion of coordinated program, dietetic internship, or other experience approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetic Education

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
