Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Physics Resident I with our Radiation Oncology Department at our main Hyde Park location.

The Medical Physics Residency Program in the Department of Radiation and Cellular Oncology at the University of Chicago Medicine is accepting applications for a Clinical Physics Resident position beginning July 1, 2025.

This CAMPEP-accredited program offers two years of comprehensive clinical training in Radiation Oncology Physics, with an optional third year focused on data-driven clinical work. The program emphasizes hands-on clinical experience and is designed to prepare residents for a professional career in medical physics, with the goal of achieving ABR certification.

The incoming resident will join a dynamic team of 14 medical physicists, including 7 faculty physicists, who are actively engaged in clinical service, teaching, and research. The department also includes 7 dosimetrists, 12 radiation oncologists, 10 medical residents, and 5 Ph.D. cancer biology faculty. While the 24-month program is primarily clinical, participation in teaching and translational research is encouraged. The optional third year offers expanded opportunities for clinical efforts to evaluate novel therapies.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must hold either:

  • A Ph.D. or M.S. degree from a CAMPEP-accredited graduate program in Medical Physics, or
  • A Ph.D. in physics or a related scientific discipline, followed by a CAMPEP-approved certificate in Medical Physics.

Candidates completing their graduate degrees in Fall 2025 may be considered; some flexibility in the start date is available.
