Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Registered Dietitian I.

 

The Registered Dietitian’s role is to assess, monitor and document the nutritional status and nutrition needs of a patient using evidence-based standards of care, clinical practice guidelines and department policies. The RD will complete nutrition focused physical exams, write enteral nutrition support prescriptions and educate patients/care givers, students and the interdisciplinary team about the effectiveness of various therapeutic diets, estimated nutrition needs and/or nutrition support regimens to improve/maintain a patients nutritional status and establish optimal outcomes. This position will primarily focus on caring for solid tumor and head & neck cancer patient populations. The RD with perform duties in support of, and in compliance with, performance improvement plans, and with requirements of regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agencies.

 

 Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Performs the nutrition care process (nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis and determination of care goals, nutrition intervention, and monitoring and evaluation) for patients at nutrition risk and others identified per department standards as in need of nutrition care.
  • Provide age-specific patient education (assessment of learning needs and barriers to learning; communication with patient/caregivers and assessing learning transfer) and develop materials as needed to augment the education process.
  • Complete nutrition focused physical exams to assess for malnutrition.
  • Calculates nutrient requirements and intake.
  • Assesses need for and determines appropriate composition, rate, etc. of enteral tube feeding and standard parenteral nutrition, if applicable
  • Uses computer programs to access information and communicate with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Documents clinical care according to organizational guidelines

 

 Required Qualifications:

 

  • BS/BA in Nutrition, Dietetics or other relevant major with completion of didactic program in dietetics if necessary
  • MS degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or other relevant major or a specialty certification relevant to position (e.g. Certified Specialist in Pediatrics, Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, Certified Specialist in Oncology, Certified Specialist in Renal)
  • Successful completion of completed program, dietetic internship, or other experience approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetic Education
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
