Job Description

The University of Chicago Medicine is hiring an Advanced Practice Provider Provider (PA or NP)/VAD Coordinator for our Cardiac Surgery department at our main medical campus in Chicago, IL. With decades of experience in mechanical circulatory support, UChicago Medicine has earned international recognition for VAD expertise and research. The Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP)/VAD Coordinator works as a part of a clinical program team through a collaborative practice agreement providing specialized clinical assessment, evaluation, tests, treatments, therapies, medical management and other direct care to Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) patients under the care of the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC).

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments required.
  • Ability to interview and obtain medical information required.
  • Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire required.
  • Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number required.
  • Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCMC Medical Staff Office prior to start date required.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • An advanced degree (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing
  • Ability to obtain Illinois advanced practice nurse (APN) license by start date
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse, current license as Advanced Practice Provider
  • Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skill
  • Proficiency in the use of computers preferred.  

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Critical care experience
  • Two years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty
  • Experience working with Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD) patients
  • Experience with temporary mechanical circulatory support devices such as impella, intra-aorta balloon pumps and ECMO
  • Working knowledge of VA and VV ECMO
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and EPIC charting

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
