Job Description

 

Join the hospital trusted by Chicago’s Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in this role a Breast Imaging Nurse Navigator. 

 

The Breast Center Coordinator oversees the Breast Center Program and provides clinical support to patients and staff within the Breast Center and throughout the Ingalls Health System. Responsibilities include assisting radiologists with procedures, supporting patients with insurance needs, delivering direct patient care, and offering education and assistance with diagnostic testing. The Coordinator also schedules procedures and appointments, provides emotional support to patients, and consults with surgeons on clinical and other patient care matters. Additionally, the Coordinator functions as a collaborative and active member of the health care team.

 

 

Job Functions

  • Ensures that each patient order is completed as ordered.
  • Ensures appropriate follow up with each patient. 
  • Demonstrates a positive, supportive attitude to physicians, patients, families and other personnel consistently, and in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Ensures comfort and safety of patients with in the department at all times.
  • Maintains courteous and pleasant attitude.
  • Facilitates treatment options in conjunction with patient and physician.
  • Conduct continued assessment of the educational, physical, psychological and social needs of the patient and their family.
  • Refers patient to support services in Hospital and Community.
  • Serves as researcher for latest information on breast disease.
  • Teach patient and family self-care capabilities and skills to adjust to an altered state of health.
  • Assists other team members in enhancing their knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations which affect position.
  • Maintain comprehensive Breast Cancer Center status by following NCCN guidelines recommendations.
  • Observes the confidentiality of department information.
  • Introduces self to patient by name and title 100% of the time.
  • Ensures the performance of the imaging process on the appropriate patient, following established procedures, and as prescribed by the physician.
  • Monitors studies for proper and adequate labeling, marking and history for all patient treatments.
  • Ensures observance of safety standards in compliance with legal requirements and department regulations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific factors necessary to perform duties safely and effectively.
  • Display patience and tact when dealing with patients’ families and other health professionals.
  • Preserves patient dignity, privacy and modestly following all HIPPA guidelines at all times.
  • Participates in in-service educational programs
  • Attends relevant workshops and conferences as available
  • Attends all mandatory department and hospital committees
  • Attends seminars to enhance leadership and technical skills
  • Formulates written goals and objectives, and reviews annually with Manager/Director
  • Seeks education and learning experience in areas of identified growth needs and review progress during annual evaluation
  • Collection of data for performance improvement
  • Participates in multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Conference, Cancer Committee, and Breast ProgramLeadership Committee.

 

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Registered Nurse; BSN or higher preferred. 
  • Certification as Breast Health Specialist (Educare) recommended.
  • Minimum three years experience in patient specialized role required
