Job Description

Assistant Director of Radiology, Full-Time Days

 

 

The Assistant Director Radiology at the University of Chicago Medicine in Hyde Park will work under the general direction of the Director of Radiology and will provide specialized qualitative/quantitative reports to the Chair, Vice Chair, Executive Director and other Radiology managerial staff.  Has a broad set of responsibilities for coordinating and managing various clinical functions, operational units, and key diagnostic support services within the Department of Radiology. 

 

 

The Assistant Director of Radiology works to enhance and strengthen the quality of clinical services, patient and referring physician satisfaction, as well as the financial well-being of the Department of Radiology.  Translates organizational vision into the management, development, and implementation of programs and projects. This oversight includes mentoring modality managers and providing direction in the day-to-day operations of all areas under their direct responsibility. This position contributes to the development of the Radiology capital budget and including renovation, construction and installation projects within the Department and requiring close interaction with the Hospitals Department of Facilities, Design and Construction.

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Provides programmatic and functional leadership, communication, and coordination across all imaging services, with other departments or functions supporting the imaging services and with departments and physicians served by imaging services. Establishes annual and long-term program or service goals, strategies in collaboration with the Executive Director and plans (including business plans) consistent with Medical Center goals and strategies.  Establishes and ensures compliance with exceptional quality and performance standards, oversees quality planning and management.
  • Oversees managers, ensuring that (as appropriate) these individuals fulfill pertinent responsibilities. Designs an organizational structure to accomplish mission and strategy of department and staffs the structure appropriately with qualified, credentialed, and competent staff.  Ensures full communication of Medical Center  Develops talent in management positions.  Formulates policies, procedures and protocols related to imaging services, patient processing, instrument and equipment maintenance, and general operations.  Maintains cost efficient and productive services that meet the high-quality service expectations of the referring physicians and patients of UCMC.  Identifies operational resource requirements and prepares justification and analysis as required to support the requirements.
  • Assumes overall accountability for the financial effectiveness and strategies of the department in support of the Medical Center’s financial goals. Establishes and monitors cumulative operating budgets across units/services to achieve financial performance objectives.  Develops business plans and major equipment purchase proposals as required with replacement purchases and new program development.
  • Establishes clear performance expectations and provides timely annual performance reviews including a development plan for employee’s positions. Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of the collective bargaining agreements applicable to Department’s union staff.
  • Identifies processes and outcomes which are important for customer satisfaction, technical quality, regulatory compliance, or other institutional priorities. Continually builds interdepartmental/interdisciplinary interactions and initiative to resolve problems, improve processes, and assure departmental and hospital-wide quality outcomes. Actively seeks methods of concurrent and retrospective feedback from customers.
  • Ensures compliance to all standards of licensure, and regulatory and accrediting agencies including, but not limited to the JCAHO, IDPH, IEMA, ARRT, NMTCB, RDMS, and FDA. Demonstrates knowledge, awareness, and compliance with Medical Center policies and procedures.  Contributes, recommends, and develops administrative and clinical polices for the Department of Radiology.

 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in business management or health care (hospital) administration.
  • Proven ability to effectively participate in the planning, organization, and operation of a large, diverse, and technically complex business unit/department/division
  • Proven success in managing budgets, staffing allocations, quality controls, process improvement, equipment operations, and educational programs
  • Successful track record in establishing credibility with medical staff through high quality service, timeliness, and performance
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative manner with faculty, staff and administration.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of staff within the Hospital and Biological Sciences Division.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
