Join University of Chicago Medicine, as a Registry Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) as part of the Neurology Stroke Service. As the Neurology Advanced Practice Provider, you will manage our acute stroke neurology patients and will leverage knowledge of neurological testing and imaging, acute stroke treatment plans, and neurovascular intervention.

The ideal candidate will have general medicine and neurology clinical experience that can be leveraged to care for a diverse patient population and the full range of stroke disorders. As a member of the Neurology acute stroke service team, the neurology APP will respond to acute stroke consultation requests from emergency services, inpatient units, and all critical care areas throughout the hospital. Attending physicians hold frequent rounds and are always available to discuss cases and treat patients. Radiology, pathology, and case conferences complement direct patient care. The APP will round on and care for acute stroke patients on the neurology floor and work with multidisciplinary teams during their hospitalization and planning for the discharge next point of care.

The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. The Nurse Practitioner manages a caseload of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice also includes family support, teaching, staff education, consultation, and research.

The Physician Assistant is qualified by academic and clinical education to provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, clinical nursing specialist support and administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership. The PA has acquired the knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the physician through organized instruction and supervised practice. This licensed health professional will take patient histories, conduct examinations, diagnose illnesses, pre- and post-operative patient evaluation, order and interpret laboratory tests and assist during complicated operations. The PA exercises autonomy in medical decision making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
