Supervisor of Respiratory Care Services (RRT), Respiratory Care Services Department, Full Time Afternoons

 

We're hiring a Supervisor (RRT) for the Respiratory Care Services department for a Full-Time, Afternoon shift with the University of Chicago Medicine at our main campus in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL. Note: This position will be supporting our Adult and Pediatric patient populations.

This position provides for direct supervisory responsibilities for assigned RCS staff. Formulates shift workload assignments for each staff member assigned to a particular shift as applicable (day or night shifts) for the Adult and Comer Respiratory Care Services areas respectively. Serves as a clinical/technical resource for staff and other healthcare providers, therefore must demonstrate proficiency in Respiratory Care modalities pertaining to all patient populations and age groups. Assures workloads are assigned and divided fairly using departmental productivity guidelines as provided by EPIC and AARC Productivity Standards. Adjusts workload assignments as necessary throughout the shift to assure consistency and uniformity of workloads. Assures assigned work is completed. Assigns STAT and new treatments, etc. as appropriate for each area of the hospital(s). Adjusts staffing levels (increase or decrease) for shift and oncoming shift as required per predetermined productivity guidelines. Provides department management input and feedback on individual performance, staff training needs and issues, need for protocol/policy revisions, etc.   

    

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides for the front-line supervision of assigned Respiratory Care Services staff during the work shift. This includes delegating workloads, assignments, and meal breaks, assuring assigned workloads are completed correctly and on time. Periodic assessment of workloads, assignments, and completion of work during the shift.
  • Serves as a clinical/technical resource to staff; assists with completion of assigned work if necessary, or re-delegates workloads to other staff members as appropriate. Assures all areas of the hospital and additional duties are covered, including but not limited to: ABG Lab, Emergency Department, O.R., MRI/Imaging, Patient Transports, Rapid Response Team coverage, Dr. Cart, etc
  • Serves as a clinical/technical resource to other health care providers (Nursing staff, Physicians, Fellows, Residents, etc.), by providing for patient cardiopulmonary assessments, recommendation and implementation of Respiratory Care treatment regimens, protocols, and other duties as assigned by RCS Leadership.
  • Provides department management feedback and input as to staff training needs, staff performance issues, clinical/technical competencies of staff, etc.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of a 2-4 year accredited Respiratory Care Practitioner program.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a tertiary health care environment and/or academic medical center, demonstrating a proficiency in Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal Respiratory Care Services is required.
  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by The National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Must be actively licensed by The State of Illinois as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare provider certification (American Heart Association) is required.
  • The Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification (NRP); PALS Certification; or ACLS Certification is preferred, depending upon patient care area assigned and the primary patient populations served and is required to be obtained within 6 to 12 months of employment.
  • Must be a member of the American Association for Respiratory Care-AARC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Asthma Educator-Certified
  • Minimum of 3 years’ previous supervisory/leadership experience in a large and diverse Respiratory Care department

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
