Job Description

Join one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic medical centers, University of Chicago Medicine, in the role of Inpatient Pediatric Pharmacist Supervisor, on our Inpatient Pharmacy team. Inpatient Pharmacist Operations Supervisors are registered pharmacists who assume responsibility and accountability for the operations of their assigned area in the inpatient pharmacy. This will require daily interactions with all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working in their designated area.  Frequent collaboration with Assistant Director of Inpatient Pharmacy to plan and provide optimal operations workflow to achieve the highest level of patient care.  As an inpatient pharmacy operations supervisor, you will be responsible to make sure your area is adequately staffed, hold pharmacy employees accountable for the work being done in your assigned area, ensure correct regulatory procedures are being followed, and understand all aspects of the workflow of the area that you are in charge of supervising. 

 

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Leads assigned operational area in full association with University of Chicago Medical Center Pride values.
  • Participates in pharmacy operations and medication dispensing.
  • Facilitates training and coaching for members of pharmacy department that work in their assigned areas.
  • Will be required to carry out pharmacy technician or staff pharmacist duties, should there be staffing shortages in the area that they manage.
  • Continuously manage and improve workflow of the areas you are responsible for managing.
  • Holding pharmacist and technicians to the highest level of accountability.
  • Being a liaison between front line staff and upper management.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice, PGY-2 Specialty Pharmacy, or PGY-2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency required.
  • Operational, clinical, administrative pharmacy experience (4-6 years) in an institutional setting.
  • Exceptional aptitude or knowledge may be considered in lieu of experience.  Extensive clinical experience and development may be considered in lieu of formal training.
  • Pharmacy leadership experience required, with formal leadership training or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and support personnel.
  • Initiative and creativity for problem solving and pro-active improvement of pharmacy operations.
  • Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Illinois or eligible (complete licensure process within 28 days of employment).

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Lean six sigma training
