Job Description

Join one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers, UChicago Medicine, as an Administrative Fellow in our Quality Performance Improvement department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. 

 

This Fellow will support clinical and hospital operational -focused improvement endeavors to understand, improve and sustain high-value, patient-centered care across the community. The Fellow will apply and develop methods and tools within the core competencies of area and process improvement, project management, and group facilitation to achieve project aims aligned with organizational goals. Team members will work effectively with diverse roles across the system to identify inefficiencies, develop solutions, and lead improvement initiatives across the system. 

 

Essential Job Functions 

  • Project Management: 
  • Participates in and oversees the planning, design, implementation, and completion of small to medium projects with support from supervisor and team members. 
  • Executes project plan and provides daily support for moving the project forward on large strategic initiatives with support from our supervisor. 
  • Maintains detailed project documentation. 
  • Quality Improvement & Process Design Expertise: 
  • Uses PDSA framework to guide projects. 
  • In partnership with area team members, facilitates the use of standard and PI tools for project and work group meetings. 
  • Group Facilitation: 
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational leads and functional team to develop meeting agendas. 
  • Accurately capture and document key discussions, decisions, and action items. 
  • Lead and facilitate project meetings, employing basic facilitation skills (e.g., encouraging participation, using process checks). 
  • Analytics/Using Data to Drive Improvement: 
  • Collaborate with data teams within UCM to ensure data and analytics needs of assigned projects are satisfied and garner the most effective clinical monitors and insight to drive improvement, while allowing for efficient analytics processes. 
  • Identify data collection and analysis needs as appropriate when relevant data does not exist electronically. 
  • Monitor project KPIs throughout the project life cycle. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • A master's degree in health care management, Public Health, International Health, Business Administration, Engineering, Performance Improvement field or related field (a bachelor's degree with equivalent experience may be considered) 
  • A broad knowledge of the US health care system and familiarity with academic medicine 
  • Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff, including physicians and administrative staff 
  • Experience facilitating groups with many different stakeholders 
  • Ability to elicit cooperation and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external leaders 
  • Knowledge of performance improvement techniques and methodologies 
  • Experience with clinical terminology 
  • High level time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail 
  • Ability to coordinate projects among many functional units, some project management experience and knowledge of project management tools and techniques 
  • Ability to independently lead small to medium scale/ scope projects 
  • Ability to manage, interpret, and present data 
  • Self-motivated: given appropriate direction for goals, must be able to work autonomously in a sometimes ambiguous and changing environment 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 1 or more years of work experience in a hospital or large health system 
  • Experience in health care performance improvement

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
