Job Description

Join the hospital trusted by Chicago’s Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in this role as a Registered Nurse (RN) in our Inpatient Hospice unit for a Full Time, Days shift. Our hospice team strives to improve the quality of a person's last days. Our goal is to help our patients live out each and every day to the best of their ability and keep them in the comfort of their own home, if at all possible. Hospice care at UChicago Medicine offers a team-oriented approach that assists patients and their families with the physical, emotional, social, spiritual and grief needs they may have as we go through this journey together. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

 

The Inpatient Hospice Registered Nurse (RN) plans, organizes, and directs the hospice care of patients in conjunction with the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team. The RN provides direct patient care with an emphasis on palliative care, provides education and support to families and caregivers. Completes an initial assessment of patient and family to determine hospice care needs. Regularly re-evaluates patient/family hospice needs. Develops care plan.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Receives report on assigned clients and gives relieving nurse/staff a complete report.
  • Makes rounds of assigned clients as prescribed by the institution’s or units policies.
  • Adheres to and motivates others to adhere to the nursing process.
  • Assists physicians and other staff with examinations and treatments.
  • Performs care within his or her scope of training and expertise, following the Nursing Process and implements the nursing care plan.
  • Assists as required with unit admissions and discharges.
  • Comply with agency or institutional guidelines and safeguards equipment and supplies.
  • Records all pertinent information on the client/patient clinical record and keeps designated staff informed of changes in status.
  • Communicates with the physician regarding the patient’s needs and reports any changes in the patient’s condition; obtains/receives physicians orders as required.
  • Commits to one hundred percent (100%) patient and customer satisfaction by always exhibiting a courteous and helpful manner during interactions with others, including patients, families, visitors, physicians, students and co-workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Current state of Illinois nursing license
  • Current CPR certification is required
  • Minimum of 2 years as a registered nurse; one year hospice experience providing direct patient care
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrate good assessment skills

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
