Here, you will manage our spine neurosurgery patients and leverage knowledge of critical Neurosurgical to care for the adult and pediatric patient populations.
Our Neurosurgery clinical teams have expertise in the treatment of many neurological disorders, including:
- Brain and spinal cord injuries
- Brain infections (encephalitis and meningitis)
- Brain swelling
- Brain tumors
- Nerve and muscle problems that affect breathing, such as myasthenia gravis and Guillain-Barré syndrome
- Status epilepticus
- Stroke
- Any catastrophic disorder affecting neurologic function
As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will be responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. In this role, the APP will manage a caseload of patients and exercise autonomous decision-making in assessing, diagnosing, and initiating delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes assessing patients’ health status through clinical assessment, provide direct clinical care, order medications/consults/imaging/therapies, interpret diagnostic testing as within scope, facilitate consultations and referrals, and provide education to patients. The APP is also responsible for planning, organizing, and directing patient care efforts collaborating with medical and surgical physicians and other team members.
Essential Job functions
- Adhere to departmental policies, safety, and infection control standards.
- Coordinate patient and family education with the care team, as well as conduct patient/family conferences to support care planning.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
- Develop and implement comprehensive care plans with the team.
- Develop educational tools and materials for patients, including web-based resources.
- Organize and conduct CME conferences.
- Utilize effective communication skills to promote problem resolution.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant educational program
- ACLS certification
- For NPs: Certification by a recognized nursing board and licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois.
- For PAs: Certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications
- APP Experience or experience as an RN in a Neuro role
