Job Description

Join us At the Forefront, at UChicago Medicine, as a Nursing Quality Specialist in the Pediatric ICU Department.

 

As a Nursing Quality Specialist, your role will be responsible and accountable to manage strategic execution of a portfolio of projects aligned with strategic goals of nursing and patient care services. This role supports the system data maintenance, integration, reporting and project management. You will also collaborate with operational leaders to integrate the system quality improvement initiatives and action planning related to clinical practice and the nursing excellence portfolio. Tracks, complies, manages and shares data related to quality.

Essential Job Functions

  • Completes all of the system’s required monthly data submission.
  • Utilizes the system’s data to generate and use scorecards, graphs, and reports to communicate performance.
  • Provides transparent data sources for clinical quality data and supports use of data in quality meetings, shared governance, and improvement groups.
  • Reviews and analyzes reports designed to monitor ongoing performance, identifies and reviews non-compliant cases and follow-ups with appropriate nursing/physician leader to proactively drive compliance.
  • Uses data to drive outcomes and improvements.
  • Uses multiple methods to communicate quality data/information to all levels.
  • Strategically identifies projects/programs to drive nursing excellence/clinical practice portfolio. Identifies and communicates alignment and impact of project plans across the organization.
  • Uses the system’s data to promote, lead, facilitate and track the planning, design, implementation, and completion of projects/programs using a data driven approach.
  • Supports operational leaders in quality improvement initiatives related to system and action planning related to nursing excellence portfolio, specifically related to clinical quality indicators (data, best practices, resources, action planning).
  • Engages with nurses and inter-professional team members at all levels to modify clinical practice to improve patient outcomes and the overall patient and staff experience.
  • Actively engages in nursing and inter-professional Quality meetings and Shared Governance.
  • Supports Nursing Programs projects, initiatives and activities.
  • Creates abstracts for submission of unit QI projects to symposium and conference review.
  • Facilitates data collection in accordance with established protocols and guidelines to ensure accuracy for data submission.
  • Participates on committees and patient safety and accreditation/regulatory compliance activities, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • 1 year of Quality Improvement/Project Management Experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of NDNQI data and Magnet standards
  • Knowledge of the Clinical System
  • Training in the system data and reporting preferred
  • Proficient in compiling data through QI software including SmartSheet, Microsoft Excel, Access, and Visio
  • Illinois Registered Professional Nurse License
  • National Certification preferred
