Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Vascular Access Phlebotomist in the Nursing Inpatient Phlebotomy department. Here, you will be responsible for drawing blood and IV placements at UChicago Medicine under minimal supervision. The phlebotomist will verify orders, generate specimen collection labels, and confirm patient identity prior to specimen collection. At UChicago Medicine, we provide state-of-the-art care for conditions of the blood vessels and lymphatic system. Our experts treat all vascular conditions, offering non-surgical, minimally invasive and traditional surgical options to deliver the highest level of patient care. This department is the Nursing Inpatient Phlebotomy department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
The Vascular Access/Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for drawing blood from inpatients and starting peripheral IVs as needed on patients in various locations under minimal supervision. Includes patient and order verification and generation of specimen collection labels.

Training in phlebotomy from an accredited program
One-two years of practical experience with references
Thorough knowledge of asepsis; manual dexterity and accuracy
Ability to follow directions and established procedures with attention to detail
Demonstrate ability to utilize institutional computer systems
Demonstrate ability to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare workers
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
Position Details
In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the Day Shift, from approximately 7:00am - 3:30pm and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus. The days of the week that you are scheduled will vary depending on the week, but we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work on weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) only every other week.
