Under the direct supervision of the orthopedic surgeons, the Cast Brace Technician assists in the performance of orthopedic procedures and cast application, independently applying and/or modifying casts and/or braces.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Evaluate and treat patients with impaired function due to traumatic injury or disease in daily clinics.
  • Apply, adjust and remove plaster and fiberglass casts.
  • Set up and adjust traction equipment for patients.
  • Prepare molds for foot orthotic devices and modify these devices under the direction of the foot and ankle physicians.
  • Purchase and maintain inventory of cast material and equipment, braces, splints, special braces, traction materials and equipment, foot orthotic materials and equipment.
  • Order and re-stock supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • May round with service attendings for purpose of checking, adjusting and preventing complications in inpatients that are casted or in braces.
  • Provide service coverage as requested.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Perform outpatient billing for clinic patients through Last Word.
  • Maintain work area and equipment.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and developments in casting and bracing.
  • Assist in revision of policies and procedures in matters having to do with traction, braces and casts.
  • Participate in professional activities to continue professional development and contributions.
  • Other duties as requested to assure excellent patient care.
  • Participate in continuous Quality Improvement project
  • Performs other duties as requested by senior management.


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of college level training or equivalent in casting and bracing techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently handle contacts with patients, physicians and other health care workers courteously and pleasantly to provide prompt and efficient attention to the medical care of the patient.
