Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine as a Nursing Programs & Quality Specialist. Here, you will partner closely with nursing leadership to lead and foster strategic nursing-related programs and ensure nursing quality across UCMC. The position collaborates with the Director of Nursing Programs and nursing leadership to ensure alignment with all aspects of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet program process including but not limited to ensuring readiness for Magnet designation and re-designation and oversight for nursing quality programs. The Nursing Programs & Quality Specialist serves as the consultative subject matter expert for Magnet and nursing quality requirements.

 

The Nursing Programs & Quality Specialist is responsible and accountable to manage strategic execution of a portfolio of projects aligned with nursing and patient care services strategic goals.  This role supports Magnet, Professional Governance and Nursing Quality.  Collaborates with operational leaders in quality improvement initiatives and action planning related to clinical practice, patient safety and risk management to improve the quality and safety of patient care.  Tracks, compiles, manages and shares data related to Magnet and nursing quality and serves as administrator for the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI).

 

Essential Job Qualifications:

  • Actively participates in Magnet Program document submission, site visit, committees etc.
  • Serves as a resource to others in the Magnet designation process (e.g., collection and reporting of data, interpretation of requirements, referral to key stakeholders).
  • Uses multiple methods to communicate quality data/information to all levels of nurses.
  • Manage data tracking, entry and reporting requirements for the Magnet Program.  Works closely to close any identified gaps in readiness and improve systems/processes to assure compliance with Magnet designation criteria.
  • Lead, facilitate and track the planning, design, implementation, and completion of projects/programs/OE events related to nursing excellence using a data driven approach.
  • Engages with nurses and interprofessional team members at all levels to change/modify clinical practice to improve patient outcomes and the overall patient and staff experiences.
  • Actively engages in nursing and interprofessional Quality meetings and shared governance.
  • Establishes and maintains a collaborative relationship with nursing colleagues and leadership across UChicago Medicine demonstrating effective use of communication skills to influence participation and results.
  • Proactively updates nursing leadership on quality outcomes and seeks input and buy-in as needed to ensure alignment and successful program deployment and adoption. 
  • Leads UChicago Medicine Nursing Quality/NDNQI/ANCC databases  to ensure consistent level of performance required to maintain Magnet designation
  • Determines own professional needs through ongoing self-assessment and evaluation of total role performance, assumes responsibility for meeting those needs, and maintains skill in clinical/professional specialty area.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • BSN degree
  • 5 years clinical experience
  • Knowledge of NDNQI data, Nursing Quality and Magnet Standards
  • Hands on experience with program management and deployment
  • Experience with data analysis and database management
  • Team player mindset with strong interpersonal and communication skills

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • MSN/MBA
  • Nationally Certified
  • Lean methodology experience
