    EMG Technician

    University of Chicago Medicine

     

    Location: Orland Park

    Shift: 40 hours per week (1.0) / Day Shift / 8-hr Shifts

     

    Job Summary:


    Under the general supervision of the nurse manager, the incumbent is responsible for the preparation of patients, collection of information pertinent to the test, performance of nerve conduction velocity tests and assisting in the performance of electromyographic studies. When available, the EMG Technician will perform EEGs. 

     

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Explains procedure and prepares patients for testing
    • Obtains relevant information and a patient history from the patient, patient's chart or referring physician
    • Assist physician with the performance of EMG studies
    • Participates in the teaching of the residents and fellows
    • Ability to recognize and eliminate electrical interference
    • Responsible for performing nerve conduction velocities under indirect supervision of a physician
    • Calibrate and adjust EMG equipment at the beginning of each shift for standard recordings
    • Keeps equipment clean and in good operating condition, detects instrument malfunction and notifies manager of problems
    • Plays a role in general flow and operation of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team including rooming, paperwork and patient follow up (billing, logging, patient files)
    • Performs other duties as requested by senior management.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Associates degree in health sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Two years’ experience in the performance of electroneurodiagnostic (Electromyography and Nerve Conductive Velocity) studies, including any clinical work or Completion of Electroneurodiagnostics program
    • Six months experience, including clinical work.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills to interface with physicians, patients and staff.


    Licenses/Certifications

    • Must be CPR BLS certified
