We're hiring for a Histotechnologist for Hematology as a full-time evenings job in Chicago, IL.
Join one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic medical centers, University of Chicago Medicine, in a new and innovative role as a Histotechnologist.
The Histotechnologist performs routine and special microtomy of surgical and autopsy tissues and processes slides for H&E, special and IHC staining. Responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, and method development to support a broad menu esoteric stains as required for definitive cancer diagnosis. Works collaboratively with colleagues and participates in process improvement projects.
Under the guidance of the senior histotechnologist, laboratory manager and pathologist, the histotechnologist collects control tissue and prepares control block to be used as positive control. Cuts control tissue onto case slides in accordance with established laboratory practice. Maintains control tissue and control blocks in the proper manner. Reviews all control and case slides prior to submitting to the medical director for review. Routes all slides and requisitions to the medical director for review prior to distribution to the ordering pathologist
