    Project Manager, Demand Management, Full-time, Day Shift (5 x 8-hour shifts), University of Chicago Medicine, Hyde Park, Illinois 


    We're hiring a Project Manager for the Data and Analytics Administration department at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Hyde Park, Illinois!


    In this role, the Project Manager, Data & Analytics Demand Management, will manage all aspects of the Project Management Life Cycle (PMLC) for projects of low and moderate risk/complexity/breadth of impact. This position will report directly to the Director of Data Governance, Quality and Resource Management. This Project Manager needs to understand when to and how to use the right processes, tools and templates in executing projects. They will assemble and manage project teams. Additionally, they will build and execute change management plan. They need to understand to role of demand management and how to engage multiple teams. They will pro-actively provide feedback and coaching on project management methodology to peers.


    Job Summary

    • Management of the Demand Management Council and Demand Management Program Office
    • Help requestors navigate the demand management request process
    • Project management of requests to acquire data into the enterprise data warehouse platform UDP (Unified Data Platform), Analytics, and Data Quality Management
    • Establish, communicate and enforce best practices and standards
    • Manages all aspects of the Project Management Life Cycle (PMLC) for projects of low and moderate risk/complexity/breadth of impact.
    • Understands when to and how to use the right processes, tools and templates in executing projects.
    • Assembles and manages the project team.
    • Facilitates small to medium meetings to successful outcomes.
    • Builds and executes change management plans
    • Understands the role of governance in the project and how to engage to support delivery.
    • Proactively provides feedback and coaching on project management methodology to peers.

    Required Qualifications

    • 3 - 8+ years previous experience.
    • Technology project management.
    • Financial acumen.
    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business, or health care field.
    • Understanding of vendor contracting and management.
    • MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
    • Experience in implementing demand management a plus

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Project Management PMI certification.
    • Health care industry or consulting.
    • Strong knowledge of multiple healthcare systems, technologies, and platforms.
    • Solid understanding of project management tools.
    • Multiple project management methodologies and software development cycles (Waterfall/Kanban/Agile).


    Essential Functions and Responsibilities


    Project Management and Execution

    • Manages all aspects of the PMLC for projects of low to moderate risk/complexity/breadth of impact
    • Planning (Initiation and Definition) – creates and manages all components of the initiation phase; including but not limited to project kickoff, stakeholder identification and analysis, risk assessment, schedule creation, budget creation, and resource identification.
    • Project Execution (Design, Build, Test/Train, Go Live) – manages all components and deliverables of project execution including but not limited to solution design, implementation, test planning and execution, training planning and execution, cutover and go-live.
    • Project Closure – manages all components of project closure including production turnover, lessons learned, and overall close out.
    • Monitoring and Control – manages all project risks, action items, status reporting, scope and schedule, financial and budget establishment and reporting, meeting facilitation, vendor engagement, change management, and project resources. Understands the overall role of project and portfolio governance.
    • Completely understands and leverages all UCM PMLC artifacts and reporting processes.

    Analytical Thinking and Problem Solving 

    • Demonstrates understanding of business operations for multiple departments or operational areas.
    • Develops and manages project budgets and other financial aspects of the projects they are overseeing (e.g., forecasting, estimating).
    • Understands the business case process and maintains a business case for the projects they are managing.
    • Understands the vendor contracting processes and participates in the negotiation of contracts for goods and services.
    • Manages the vendor once contract is signed.
    • Understands how to gather information and conduct analysis to gain a full understanding of issues and problems, including root cause identification.
    • Anticipates functionality/system/ application problems based on past experience.
    • Understands the value and timing of when to escalate issues for resolution of an issue.

    Communication and Formal Status Reporting 

    • Clearly communicates decisions, plans, goals and strategies.
    • Organizes and communicates complex information clearly and simply to drive actions.
    • Communicates to diverse audiences so that information is credible, digestible and easily understood.
    • Maintains and uses the PMO and Portfolio management tools to track, manage, and report on projects.

    Relationship Building and Management

    • Identifies project stakeholders with support from the sponsor and project team. Builds and uses a stakeholder management plan.
    • Consistently builds valued relationships, enabling on-going and effective partnerships to achieve objectives for the customer.
    • Identifies differences or disagreements among business and technology stakeholders; facilitates involvement, collaboration, and communication to resolve issues quickly.
    • Partners with stakeholders up to the Executive Director level to support their decision-making processes; challenges thinking to ensure accountability and good stewardship.
    • Uses judgment to involve other senior team members when navigating difficult stakeholder issues.
    • Participates in events and forums within the DNA, UChicago, and externally in the project management and health care community.
    • Builds and sustains strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Provides tactful, honest, balanced feedback to peers and customers.
    • Coaches and mentors others on project skills to build self-sufficiency.
